July 2013 - Post Op Thread

Recommended Posts

Well I haven't posted here yet' date=' I was posting in the pre-op forum. But never got a response. I had my surgery Monday after noon. Came home on Wednesday evening. Everything has been going ok. I was laying on my sofa tonight and was watching a movie, forgot to take my dose of pills. Holy freaking carp. I sat on the edge of the sofa and it hit me, sharp excruciating pains. Got that fixed asap. On the up side I am now at 317, that makes 11 pounds since the surgery <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> how is everyone else doing?[/quote']

Congrats on the 11 pounds. It's so interesting how different the pain is for everyone. I'm still preop. Surgery is on 7/23. I have such a hard time swallowing pills, I was afraid I would have trouble post op. I told my surgeon and he said he would order liquid pain meds. I'm so relieved.

Most surgeons order liquid pain &other meds after surgery due to swelling around esophageous area

Hey Nicole!

Glad your home...not so glad about your pain! Be sure to stay on top of that pain meds. I took mine religiously the first 5 days then slowly weaned off. I haven't taken any now in 4 days. I'm 16 days post op now. I'm down a little over 20 lbs now and feeling pretty great. My biggest issue is lack of energy and desire to eat. Congrats on the 11lbs loss! Sounds like we have some similar preOp stats! I'll look forward to hearing from you and your progress. Have a great day!

Hi everyone, I am 9 days post op and doing pretty well. Getting at least 48oz of Water a day usually more. Averaging 80g Protein and 700 calories. Have also walked a minimum of 2 miles a day most days since day Monday :-)

I guess I am lucky, so far pain has been easily bearable only took Tylenol for 2 days (mostly coz I had a headache) since then nothing.

I do find I tire easily, have to go back to bed for a rest after my shower :-) and enjoying a siesta in the afternoon.

I find I am waiting for something to go wrong (a stricture or something) but know I should just relax a count my blessings for now.

Wishing everyone out there a speedy recovery.

Thank you, it's strange that all I have been doing is resting and the weight is just going down. I will definitely be watching the clock more often. When I was in the hospital I had a morphine drip and got to push a little button every fifteen minutes or so. Morphine doesn't help me much comfort wise, but it helped me sleep and that's all that mattered till I could take the pills. And I am oh so happy that they are smaller than a tick-tac. They also gave me nausea patched instead of pills cause I was having a hard time with just ice chips staying down. I was given some liquid Tylenol for my back cause it was starting to hurt, it made me throw up, so while the thought of liquid meds sounds heaven sent. Make sure you can stomach the taste. It was a cross of cherry cold medicine and goody powders. I have only been walking around my apartment because one of the incisions is on my bra line, so I can't wear a bra, and I won't go anywhere with out one on. So hopefully they heal fast. Lol I haven't had any head hunger thank goodness, my family had subs last night and while it smelt good, I had no desire to eat it. I was full off of my beef broth. Which my mother found quite entertaining. Lol

How is everyone doing today? Last night I went to a birthday party and the smells of all the food gave me some serious head hunger. I think that has been the most frustrating part of this whole experience! Anyone else dealing with head hunger issues? How do you cope?

I'm busy dealing with GAS issues!

I'm walking, sucking down Gas X strips, belching, cutting the cheese.< /p>

Gas is wrapped around my stomach and back, clenching to me, sometimes cutting off my breath!

This just started full force today DAY 4 Post Op.

Hope this is just the end of it trying to stay with me!

I went to my husbands squadron picnic yesterday and thought I was going to die from all the cupcakes staring back at me. It is all in my head I know but damn I just wanted one little bite. I made it through the day by repeating the number 30 in my head over and over again. 30 is the number of pounds I am down 19 days post-op.

I actua lly have been dealing very well. I work a lot and don't get time to always cook for my family. But being home after my surgery I've been enjoying making their faves and catching up. No nausea and this helps with the urges. I figure I have to deal and move on. Its helping me knowing that my 2 boys and husband have their mom full time at home atleast for a mth or so and that keeps me grounded. ;) plus I know my goals too. I do live in the real world...food is always around me...gotta deal, get use to it and be strong!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
