Sleeve or bypass? Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm currently in the process of getting approval and dr appts. After my seminar I'm on the fence on which to choose. I know it's my choice but wondered why some chose the gastric bypass over the gastric sleeve?? Thanks!

I haven't had surgery yet ( think June) but I am choosing bypass because I need the accountability of possible dumping..and I have read where several people have had their sleeve revised to bypass...I also felt like bypass had more stats for success and sleeve is relatively new ?

When i did my first seminar (im new at this too) i remember that the surgeon said the most success is rny the sleeve doesnt have too much time on the market and most importantly with the sleeve they remove part of your stomach so its not reversible just in case something happens God forbid!!! So u decided when i get my surgery ill go with rny best wishes and good luck!

I did the sleeve lost only 35lb in 6 1/2 months my Rny is in June the sleeve is the most painful thing I have ever done three 9 1/2lb kids Natural childbirth and my gallbladder removed in the 90's. The sleeve has a 20% Failure rate as well. I wanted the Rny to start with They say the sleeve is less invasive but if you really think about it no its not its removing 85% Of your stomach that is not reversible! The Rny if it does not work slim chance of that btw but it can Be reversed. Don't do what I did don't fall for the fad wls and then have to do this all over again do it right the first time.

I wanted the gastric bypass because I too wanted the accountability of dumping, wanted the most restriction and I was 360lbs so I had to loose a lot.

I was on the fence with my first procedure as well. I went with the lap band because it was less invasive. Needless to say I am here now and getting revised to gastric bypass this Thursday-- can't wait!!! I alway advise people just go for it and do the whole shebang! Lol I regret the time and money wasted with my lap band so much! Finally I'm on the right path!!!

That is EXACTLY why I am doing bypass...I was dead set on band because it wasn't as invasive also...then I did tons of obsessive research and here I wait for an approval & date ;-)

Also my surgeon said the sleeve is not a good choice for anyone who has a problem with GERD

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
