Getting grilled

Recommended Posts

Well at this moment I am getting grilled about why I am getting the surgery. I am holding my own tho! It is on an Icelandic chatroom were ppl know each other alot even outside the net. Some are asking how can I go thru with this when it is so scary. Telling me I should try first overeaters anonymous, greysheeters and lchf diet. Even one who had the band and is failing a bit at it is criticising my decicion, what is that??? I am mostly annoyed at that girl, just because she did not do the work and is therefore failing does not mean I will not. I have done ten times the research and everything then she ever has before I took my very well informed decicion.

Great thing about chat rooms, You can make a statement and leave. Just something like: Wow, I thought friends would give me some support, especially ones that have had WLS. Not my fault you chose one that didn't work for you. I chose this because I CAN"T dip 2 bags of oreos in coffee and wash em past that band. When you want to support my decision, feel free to message. Until then: feel free to go to judgmental arseholes anonymous. Thanks!

True and she has admitted she did not go to have the band tightned when she was supposed to. And turns around and judges my decicion. Hmmmm

Hi

I had my surgery on Apr 2nd and realized that if I had revealed what I was doing that I would be opening myself to all kinds of criticism I just wasn't looking for. So, I chose to tell my mom and a close friend and that was it. I realized by the time I got to the decision to do this the only people who would understand are those who have gained and lost weight a million times over the years. I hope that you would realize that you know what is good for you and congratulations on taking care of you.

As I respond, I'm in waiting room. My surgery is in TWO hours. ONLY my husband knows. I have not told one friend or family member. My husband is also away for work for 8 months and is so worried. I had a friend drop me off thinking I was having a shoulder procedure. I'm right there with you!!!

Luckely my family and friends are super supportive. They are very happy for me to have decided to get the surgery. I am so blessed and happy to have all this support. It just those darn ppl that have no say and do not really know me, ppl that think that just because I am fat I must be a food addict and a out of control overeater. My family knows better.

My mom has expressed to me quite Boldly that she does NOT want me to have GB surgery. I've tried to explain to her it will make me healthier.... But she gas only heard bad stuff. So I've decided to take her with me to a seminar. I'm hoping and praying this will change her mind. :(

Honestly, I was prepared for lots of negative comments. Luckily, I only had one person tell me that thought I should try other avenues first and it was more out of concern than criticism. I went in prepared, mentally AND physically. I did my research homework and made it clear that ALL of my healthcare team were in favor of me having the surgery. I only waited as long as I did because I didn't have insurance to cover it and couldn't afford it without. I did my due diligence and was totally satisfied I had made the appropriate decision for me and pretty much made that known in no uncertain terms. Since you have done that don't let the naysayers get you down. They will always be there ready to pounce. Some people have nothing better to do. Be proud of your decision to take control of your health and ROCK IT!!

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes my mind is totally made up... I would love to have my moms support, but once she sees that I'm not turning back. I'm going strong with my decision maybe she will jump on board. :) I know she worries about me but maybe the seminar will show her that is to help me. I luv this app y'all are so positive and encouraging!

Try taking her with you to see your doctor. You will always be her child and I'm sure she is just concerned. If she hears that your doctor has your best interest at heart and he explains things to her so she understands, it may help put her at ease.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
