April 2013 Post-Op Group

Surgery was Monday. So far so good but still having a lot of gas pain. What have others found helpful for that? They also found two hernias and repaired them so I have a bit more pain than expected' date=' but doing ok. Protein Shakes, Water & broths are going down fine. Might try going to my daughters ball practice tonight & walk around the field (walking through the house is getting pretty boring)

I walked the side walk in front of my house. Fresh air felt good. And the weather was good too

Today is my first day of puree! (Dos 4/10) I also went back to work today and I don't want to try anything new here! So...maybe for dinner? Any suggestions? How thin did you make your puree?

Great information on the straw thing. Is anyone considering a vegetarian lifestyle post-op?

Coincidentally my diet has been leaning towards vegetarian. Things like morning star burgers have been great and gentle for me. cheese and yogurt as well

I'm trying not to get down here, but I lost the first week after surgery, and now it's week three (and a half) which means more than two weeks with no loss. I also haven't noticed a huge difference in my clothes. I'm following my surgeon's plan exactly.... I know there are going to be stalls, but come on :( On a happier note, keep up the good work ladies! It seems like everyone is being careful and smart about their decisions

I'm at a stall right now too--it's very common to happen at weeks 2-4. I've been at the same for over a week now. It is hard to deal with, but just trust in the process and know that the weight WILL come off if you stick to your rules. Plateaus are just a bump in the road.

Was alright yesterday, but sure hurting today. All I want to do is sleep. Made tacos for the family, but didn't even think about the food. I think I am going to really struggle getting liquids in today. Ugh.... SO TIRED!!

Today is my first day home. gas pains are bad today. Gas X strips do not work. The chewable ones do. I never knew passing gas could feel so good. But then once I started passing gas I've had diarrhea all day. Every time I drink Water, take meds or Vitamins I am headed to the bathroom. And asking my husband to wipe me is humiliating.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
