How can anyone say it was the easiest surgery they've been through? I've never had any other surgeries before in my life. It has been very painful for me. Especially on the left central side of my belly area. It feels like I'm ripping my insides all to pieces when I get up and down, off couch or bed. Mine was lapro, my husband had the open open abt 15yrs ago and thinks I need to stop complaining, get up and move, and move on, etc. He of course says I'll never feel what he did but no one knows how you feel. Even my dr thinks it's gas.. My nurse, who went through it 8wks ago herself, says it's not gas but guaranteed I'll be dancing in another week or so, ok we'll see...

I am with you guys, the surgery went fine and everything but I am hurting Sooo much right now! Every time I move it feels exactly like that. I was actually thinking of heading back to the hospital because of the pain but just don't think there is anything they can really do if it is muscular. I haven't had one night of sleep or been able to lay in my own bed since I have been home. It is very frustrating and painful.

Sorry you all are hurting. This makes number ten for me so i do have others to compare it too. Make sure you are only using your leg muscles when getting up. But by the fifth day you should be improving.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
