Fabulous February Post-Op's

My hair is falling out BIG TIME. I'm trying not to let it bother me but it still does.

I'm down from HW 344 to 248. My goal weight range is between 187-157 so I still have a ways to go. Been a bit stalled for the last few weeks but noticing positive changes in my clothes so trying to focus on that. So thankful to this forum because it helps me stay focused on the positives.

At the blood drive I went to tonight two really awesome things happened: 1. My resting heart rate had dropped 30bpm and 2. They used a regular sized blood pressure cuff.

Plus, one of the ladies there told me that she just loves talking to me because I have such a positive aura. The last few years have been really tough in my life but it all started to turn around in August 2011 and hasn't stopped. This is the best my life has been in years and I am trying to stay focused on it getting even better!

This is very cool! I've been told my personality has changed as well: people see me as more confident!

Soooo, next month I decided to go to my high school alumni cheerleading reunion (yes I was a cheerleader). This is something I never would have gone to before... I didn't even go to my 30th high school reunion (yes, I'm 50). Even though I'm not at my goal weight, I have gained so much confidence. I'm excited to go! Yay!

So you know how I said a few days ago that I was trying not to let my hair falling out bother me? Well, today I was at my moms house and saw the back of my head for the first time since all this started and I have a bald spot...well, not really, but you can definitely tell the hair is thinning. I know this is somewhat normal, but I am kinda freaking out about it. Is anyone else seeing this?

Oh yes. The top of my head has thinned VERY much and I also have a spot on the back of my head that is pretty thin. I'm freaking out cause I've always had thick hair and I don't like seeing my scalp through my hair when it's wet. I called the Dr. and they said even though I'm getting the normal amount of Protein a day (50-60g) I need to try and get like 10-20 more grams on top of that. So I'm trying to do that now. It just sucks.

post-31399-1381381254195_thumb.jpg what keeps me going is this graph. If you don't use MyFitnessPal I would recommend it on the basis of this feature alone. Even when the weight loss seems impossibly slow, I look at the graph and it helps. Plateaus disappear and you see the overall trend!

I have lost almost half of my hair. Getting a short cut tomorrow. My hairdresser said I can probably grow it out after a year or so. It sucks, but I knew it would happen. I even take Biotin, to no avail.

Awww...my hair is falling out massively too. Not quite that bad, but it can be hard to stomach. I decided to grow mine out when I got the surgery and I am trying to stick with it. My hair was always my favorite feature, but I am trying to focus on new things about myself that I like :)

I have a question for all of you:

How far along are you in your weight loss? I don't want to know exact number of pounds lost, but I just noticed that it seems like most of us are about half-way to our goal weight. Some are closer to 2/3 of the way there, some are lagging a bit behind...

Would you mind sharing?

Cecilia (half-way there)

My goal was to lose 85 and I am down 64...So I guess I am about 3/4 of the way there...but it has really slowed down.

STRESSED!!!! As a PA I have to retake my boards (to keep my medical license) every 6 years, my test is this Friday. I'm exhausted, spending every spare minute studying, not sleeping, not exercising at all, pretty 'meh' with the diet (although NOTHING like I would have been pre-RNY), hair falling out ridiculously....I want a cookie. I cannot wait for this to be over so I can get back to my regular life. So, understandably, my weight is at a standstill (mediocre diet + no exercise = no weight loss), thank goodness I can't be In a constant stress induced binge or I would have gained 10 pounds already.

Don't whining, thanks for listening :)

I don't know what to say other than I have a huge new respect for PAs. As far as I know, no other medical profession had to retake their boards periodically. Sending you "smart" vibes!!!

So all of a sudden I feel like I've been able to eat more. In the last 3 weeks I'd say. I know it's more important to count protein/watch carbs, but I'm curious....how many calories & carbs are you guys eating a day? I feel like I'm between 900-1200. I feel like that's too many.

I'm getting within that range. I haven't been counting my carb intake though. I've just been really focusing on my Protein and calories. I upped my protein to be between 60-80 grams a day. I've been plateaued for like the last month.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
