How could I not lose weight?

Recommended Posts

I lost just under 20 pounds in the first ten days out from surgery (that doesn't include the added hospital weight). Then they allowed me to have 5, 1 oz, high Protein soft "meals" along with Protein Shakes and other no-cal liquids.

All of the sudden I stopped losing weight. I am getting in between 500 and 600 calories, my protein is above 60g per day, my fluids are above 80oz per day. I have been as active as I can be this close out from surgery.

It just doesn't make sense.

Oh and my surgery was 1/14. Any advice, words of wisdom, and/or help would be greatly appreciated. I felt like a failure with my Lapband. I don't want to fail at this too...

I can only talk about my experience but I stalled out 2 weeks after my surgery (11/26 surgery date) and I have just started to lose weight again this past week. Good job on getting all your Protein and Water in. Im just now starting to get my recommended protein intake in and calories are now getting above 500. Just make sure you are following what you are suppose to do. Walk a little more if you are able to. You can always email or call you nut. and give all them information and see what they say. Good luck and don't get to discouraged it will start to move again :)

You have given your body quite a shock. It's in starvation mode. You will see posts on this all the time. Give your body time to adjust to the kick in the butt it got. You will succeed, just patience is key!

I'm in the same boat. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and haven't lost an ounce since about a week ago. My Nut said its because I'm in starvation mode and my body has to figure out that I am not going to starve it. I have actually gained a pound on occassion. I'm learning not to stress to much over it. It will fall off in it's own when it's ready. Keep excersizing, lots of Water, and keep your chin up. These stalls are only a moment in time on our journey to healthy :-)

Just so you know, stalls are going to happen as you get farther out too. I'm 2 months out and have been stalled for two weeks. But I also increased my exercise and I log everything I eat. I started my period yesterday and came down with a horrible cold last night. So I'm not weighing myself until my period is over and I feel better. Eventually the stall will break and you'll lose again. I'm down almost 50 lbs in 2 months...I've never done that before so no matter what I'm a success :). You will get through this, and the weight will come off.

My surgery was a day after yours. I'm 22 pounds down. I'm not as good with liquids as you. I can get in about 32oz a day not including protein shakes. I average anywhere from 250-445 cals a day with 65g of protein (on good days). I have not been cleared for soft foods yet. I only start pureed foods Tuesday for a week then soft foods begin. What type of soft meals are you having? What's the sodium content like? Sometimes sodium sneaks in on us in meals and makes us retain Water.< /p>

So you lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks? Thats great! It sounds like you just haven't lost anything for several days. Be patient and follow your rules. Your body will not lose weight evenly. Some weeks you may lose 5 lbs, some weeks none. But you will keep losing. Just remember that this early it's impossible not to lose weight! I am 6 1/2 months out and have lost 118 lbs with several stalls. One was even a month long! Hang in there.

I stalled around that point as well. My doctor explained to me this week at my 3 mo appt that "we" think the weight loss will be consistent daily...but...in reality it's like a stair step. You drop then rest then drop again. My RNY was 10/23 and I'm down 55#--good luck, just keep doing the routine!

Wow...118lbs, that's amazing! Good for you!!! I can't imagine a month long stall. That is awesome that you pushed through that & kept going. You are truly an inspiration! Thank you!

I am only allowed 5 foods right now: 0% plain Greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, low fat cottage cheese, egg beaters, and refried Beans..

And I am only consuming 1 oz 4-5 times per day, so even if what I was eating was loaded with sodium I don't know that it would matter all that much.

I guess I just need to wait it out, but it sure is hard!!

One step at a time. We didn't gain weight over night so we won't lose it over night. I had about 3/4 stalls. Patience my dear. You will lose the weight & feel fabulous.

I had my surgery in Dec. I lost 30 lb the first 2 weeks and then stalled for the next 4 weeks!! So frustrating!! What helped me was getting the app "my fitness pal" and sticking to it..within 2 days I was losing weight again.. I set my goal at 800 calories and it's truly a easy way to keep on track of what we put in our mouth..

Hate to recommend this but it may work. Decrease your fluids. 80 is a lot of Water. You may be retaining it. My body can not handle as much water. You may be waterlogged. Decrease to 40 to 64 oz per day. You wont dehydrate on that. Just an idea although not a popular one.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
