March Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

I had the same feeling as you the first few weeks of my supervised diet. But as the weeks went on, it got easier. My doctor explained to me that this surgery is only a tool and even afterwards, most of the eating habits we are supposed to maintain are still up to our own will power. I worry that if you cannot commit yet to a diet that you may not be ready for this surgery. I think it might be best to come clean with the doctor's office. It's probably also a good idea to talk honestly with a psychologist about this so they can help you work through it with the ultimate goal being surgery. I say this all without judgement. I hope everything works out for you! Best Wishes!

I am actually looking for the right psychologist as we speak. My situation may be a little different than some of yours. I gained over half of my weight from some medications that I was on, actually in about a three-four month period I gained close to 50 pounds. It caused me to go into a deep depression and I said "to hell with it" and ate what I wanted. I gained the other 50 that way. I tried everything under the sun to get the weight off and lost 26 and that was all I could get off, all of this was Dr. supervised. At that point my Dr. said to start the process for the weight loss surgery. I am not saying I have not developed eating issues or I did not have them before. I was anorexic and bulimic for years (all worked out through therapy long ago) but maintained a normal weight for a very long time, actually until two years ago. I am totally committed to this process and do see it as just a tool. I know I need to get to the root of why I became so depressed and decided to eat whatever and gained 50 pounds. I will succeed at this and I totally agree that therapy needs to be a part of that process.

EDG is over before you know it. But you feel like you have been sleeping for days. Good luck. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Regarding EGD...I was told to have someone drive me home but I just looked at my paperwork that they gave me. It says no driving for 24 hrs after! That would mean an extra day off work. Is that true, you couldn't drive even the next morning? My test is scheduled for noon.

I was off for a couple days as i had just went back to work after my gall bladder surgery and was not doing to well. They use propofol to knock you out. But i don't recall if i could drive the next day or not.

Does anyone know if it is okay to go to work about 3 hours after having an EGD? I will just be sitting at a desk for work and occasionally talking to customers over the phone.

Personally I would have been fine to work, although I did not. I didn't have any pain, I think they just want you to rest due to the anesthesia.

I have my pre-op appt this Tuesday(19th), a pre-op class and have to purchase my opti fast shakes. I am nervous as it's getting closer and closer but I'm so ready for this.

Has anyone been taking Vitamins prior to surgery?

I have been taking vitamins :-) I think its a good way to put yourself on the schedule that we will need to make to ensure that we have the needed ones taken daily.

My voyage into this has been a bit different than some of yours it sounds. I had all but three appointments (pre op with PCP, final dietitian visit, and finally meet the surgeon) all before I was approved by ins. I was denied the first time around as my BMI had not been in the qualifying range for two years. So I met with everyone and did all my tests, psyc evaluation, yada yada over a year ago. The only visit I have left is my pre-op with my PCP. It feels even more surreal to be getting this done as I have been at it for close to two years...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
