2 weeks Post Op Today

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for some time, a post here or there. I had my surgery on Dec 19, AND got flu at the hospital. Yes folks, I am one lucky gal, hah! So far lost I've lost 19lbs, I can finally stand the smell of food but meeting my liquid and Protein requirements is just not happening. Would I be losing more weight if I were taking more in???

You are all so generous to post your tips here for me to learn from, and I will be very grateful for any and all advice offered.

Hi, and welcome to the loser's bench! So many reasons for you not to be losing much. You were given a lot of fluids in the hospital which your body doesn't give up easily. Yes, sometimes your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to calories so it doesn't feel starved, if you don't nourish it enough. It could take a while in order to get all of the fluids and Protein in. Don't forget about those vitamins! SIP, SIP, SIP......

Keep sipping. Staying hydrated is so very important, The Protein will come in the next week or so. Try to get some in, but really stress the liquids and start on your Vitamins if your doc has cleared you to do so, I just tried every day to do better at something then the day before, I am four weeks out and getting in all my fluids and protein and vitamins. My biggest complaint is Constipation. ugh. tmi i know but oh it would feel so good to "go" wishing you the best,

Yes, fluids are the most important. Everything else will come in time and then they will want you to eat more! LOL Sounds like you are doing OK. 19 is a good loss so far. You may have a period of a small stall around the third and the fourth week. It is just your body adjusting to the big loss you just had. Don't freak out. :-) And let us know whatever questions you may have. We are here to help!! I would have gone crazy without this board and the wonderful people on it.

PS... I am so sorry to hear you got the flu. UGH that must have sucked!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
