I was hooked on Pepsi. I was able to quit it once before when I lost 100 lbs about 4 yrs ago but when I gave in to my desires for it (and other bad things), I put all my weight back on plus 10. I kept thinking one (or two) won't hurt anything. This is why I now am 11 days post op. Pepsi was a gateway to sugar and carb cravings for me so I know better than to go there again even though I too think about wanting it. Think about what soda did for you before surgery even if it was diet. Soda inhibits Calcium absorption and is bad for the teeth (diet formula too). The carbonation is very bad for the pouch. Think of what is bad about it rather than how much you want it. It's all in the head and is your enemy.

Anyone have any good drink sugestions? because I really hate Powerade and all those drinks that were suggested, I am also tired of Crystal Light I really don't care for that either. So far the only thing I like besides Water is the Decaf ice tea. Help need more drink variety.

When I was one month post op I got so sick I could not drink Water it made me so nauseas crystal light did the same thing. So I tried a iced green tea from Starbucks unsweetened and I would sweeten it with Splenda been stuck on that since

There are packets to mix with Water called arnold palmers. It is a tea lemonade mix and only 5cals. It does not taste sickly of artificial sweet and no bad aftertaste

My Dr told me coronation will not stretch your pouch. And that it may cause pressure but its bc of the coronation and you'll just feel like burping a lot. He said if you drink pop, drink diet. He said people think its bad but diet really isn't.

Carbonation scares me. My brother had an open bypass almost 10 years ago. He followed no recommendations and taught himself to drink soda as the first slide down the hill. He weighs over 700 lbs now. After soda, it was fatty foods, then sugar, then increasing portion sizes. I just think getting into any of the stuff we aren't supposed to have leads us down a slippery slope.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
