How long after surgery did you have a BM?

I had a bm while I was still in the hospital and I've been regular ever since.

After surgery I slept alot, better than I usually do thank to the pain killers. I sleep in a recliner still and I am 4 weeks post op. I do not find the bed comfy at all :( I also lean alot on my left side.

Took me a few days, remember you have to have more than liquids in order to go and then it has to follow the route from one end to the other, LOL. I take half of a Fiber One chewable three times daily, starting a couple weeks after surgery. It seems to help and I go every day now, but always ask your doctor before you try anything new....

Doc told our group milk of magnesia or Miralax I would think the BM would be very loose

Hippie Gal you look great! Glad you're feeling as well as you look. I've had bm issues from the beginning because of the pain meds. My dr suggested a hot toddy of 1-2 oz milk of magnesia, 1 oz of prune or apple juice, warm it up and then down it like a shot! Works every time!

Girls, have any of you tried a body pillow in bed? Someone suggested one to me and I slept in bed from the day I got home. It was nice and soft and kinda propped myself on my side with it. Also, that way I wasn't laying all the way down, so getting up was a little easier. :)

And soo glad those of you with some complications are getting answers and are on the road to recovery!! We've all been praying for you!! I have been doing pretty well, except my period is due but is not coming, just cramps, which along with my goofy new tummy is slightly uncomfortable! But, considering what some of you have been through, I'm not complaining! I cannot wait to have my diet advanced on Tuesday. I'm still struggling to get all my Protein in cause I HATE the shakes and we can't really eat a whole lot that is really high in protein. I'm also starting to taste the Unjury...ugghh! And the Protein Shots are nasty to me too, so....yeah!! Come on Tuesday! It was also nice to read that some of you are also having cravings for other foods. I smelled pizza the other day and my mouth started watering! Lol. You can purée pizza, right? ;) Anyways, glad everyone seems to be healing and doing well. This forum is a life saver, such a great support! Have a nice Saturday all!

I am a belly sleeper and from the night I arrived home from the hospital I found that I was flipping to my stomach during my sleep. When I woke up, oh the pain on my left side incisions. But every night it was the same thing. I would unknowingly flop to my stomach in my sleep.

About the puréed pizza: a week ago my daughter was having pizza. I looked at her and said could you imagine me putting a piece in the blender and purée it. The thought of even how it would look almost made me sick. I couldn't believe I had that thought. Glad I'm not the only one w crazy thoughts. :-)

I'm tasting the Unjury too. I only use them when I have Soups, just for extra Protein. Funny how our taste buds change. I'm on puréed now and so scared to try anything since the dump w the skinless chic breast :-( I did try egg next morn and stomach hurt for a little while but that's it. So I fell back onto cream of Broccoli last night w some unjury, only so I could hit 60+ in protein. I have a list my nutritionist gave me of puréed meals that I'm going to look at the hit the store for grocery shopping.

Gen :-) 12/15/12

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
