December 2012 Post Op Group

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to update everyone on my journey. I am 24 yo and had surgery on the 5th. Weight the day of surgery was 270 and last i checked on Sat i was 252. Almost 20 lbs! So exciting since i didnt really expect it to come off that quick. I have a 10month old daughter who is now home with me again after the surgery and she is definately helping me get my walking in. Taking care of her full time while my husband is at wok has not hurt at all but it does wear me out as my lil girl is 20lbs herself. I just keep telling myself, "i was carrying 20lbs on my body and now im just carrying it on my hip." this journey has been rough but well worth it and i am finding the positives.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I dont write much on here but i love reading them all. Im glad to know im not alone when it comes to the smaller things like bowel movements and monthly cycles.

Praying for you all as you continue your journies! :)

Congrats!

Thanks. My doc said try a bite of new food and wait 5 min to see how you feel. If a food upsets you give it at least 3 days before you try it again. I think I will try.scrambled egg tomorrow as my first soft food.

Alright my husband is one week post op! Surgery went great and he is in some pain. He is not feeling full though. He is eating something all day. He is still on full liquids, eating Jello, pudding, spaghetti sauce, carnation drinks, and protien shakes. He doesn't feel full or have a belch or anything like that. He was constipated yesterday he finally told me he ate one tootsie roll while I was gone. Do you think that clogged him up? Could y'all tell me what y'all eat in one sitting when you feel full?

I am eating 3 tablespoons of either grits, thin mashed potatoes, plain oatmeal with tsp of applesausce (unsweet), Jello, or pudding. 3X a day with high protien shake in between and I haven't been hungary. I haven't been stuffed but I feel satisfied.

I can only eat a few ounces and I am satisified, I have went over once and felt extremely sick. I don't think the tootsie roll really did anything unless he didn't chew it well it could get stuck in there (but then he couldnt eat, he would vomit), other than that it would pass but usually chocolate would cause diarrhea not Constipation I think? Is he eating small amounts each time or can he eat a lot at one sitting? He is still on liquids so that is also something to consider since liquids are going to run through your pouch pretty fast, so that might be why he is still hungry after. I am only 8 days, and do have a hard time still getting food in, but I also am on soft diet already, so I am actually eating somethings that will stay in my stomach longer than just liquids which I can do a lot more freq and easier. Is he still losing weight? I would think he is fine, call his dr for the constipation thing since that can get dangerous, mine told me to do a tiny bit of milk of Magensia and that did the trick for me, and I only took a tiny bit since you don't want diarrhea.

I was on Clear Liquids for two days then they switched me to full liquids until the 20th which is a total of 7 days, then I will be on pureed for 3-5 weeks, next I will be on regular diet (scary to think about). I can only have 2 ounces of food an hour and that is it....eg. pudding, shakes, yogurt but I can tolerate about 6oz clear liquids in an hour before I start belching. Your body will let you know what it can tolerate.

My husband is eight days too. We don't have a " planned diet ". We only have guidelines to follow. I would just think after two cups of Soup and a cup of skim milk he should be full. You think he should go to soft diet?

Just had the drain removed. Not very pleasant, actually made me nauseous. IV's are all out. Waiting for discharge paperwork then home I go. Little nervous about going home, did anyone else feel nervous? Although while I was here my baby girl, a black boxer, had 5 pups. My house has been in an uproar with my dogs and daughter missing me. Our cat went into hiding and is feeling neglected too. :-( I feel so bad for being away for almost 5 days.

:-) Dec 15th New me and life begins ;-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
