Who Did You Tell Ptior To Your Surgery

Recommended Posts

I opted only to let my wife know. I have learned from the past too many family members are too negative about the surgery

Only let a few close friends know that I was having WLS the rest found out after. It took a long time to get to the point of surgery to listen to skinny people tell me I'm taking the easy way out. So far I love the Chang in me and so does most everyone that knows me.

Good luck

I pretty much told my family and work mates. My family has been completly supportive and my work mates have been suprisingly supportive in a different way.

They have asked questions, smart questions, and been completly non judgemental, plus when I went back after 4 weeks they had got together, passed the hat, and gave me a 200$ gift card for a nice mens store to go Celebrate when I get to my goal. People on he edge of my life, you know the ones you see every few months or neighbors you just wave to , I will tell if and when they ask but I dont actively bring up the subject.

The fun part will come after you have drop a lot of weight and you run across friends that don't know you have had WLS and ask what happen to you.

My co- workers and company have been behind me and have supported me on this Journy to better health. We have had 2 other people go though WLS so the company know that it works for both them selfs and the worker that is now not losing time from work and is much healthier.

Some of my co workers now call me a frail old man after losing 68 lbs. Ok I can live with that.

My friends, sister, mom/dad, and colleagues know. Sometimes family can be so judgmental. So, not ever planning on telling them. Esp. if I have issues, etc. Of course they'll say I should not have had the surgery! At this point in my life, I can and will only have dealings with positive people.

I told my friends in my building, my mom/dad, one uncle. I was originally going for the sleeve, but found out a couple weeks ago my insurance won't pay for it. I told may sister and brother that I was having the sleeve, when I thought I was, I will fess up after surgery because my sister does not want me to have the bypass. But it's my decision, and I am not changing my mind.

I only told my husband, ,sister and best friend. People can be so judgemental, and try to talk you out of it. I figured it was no ones bussiness but my own.

I'm new here too, don't have a date yet but I was wondering what y'all thought of me not telling my 3 grown boys that have chosen not to have anything to do with me that I'm trying to have this surgery ...

If I were in that situation, I wouldn't tell them . For me, I felt it best to only tell people who I knew we're gonna be supportive of me only!!! It made me feel better going into surgery that way and I am so glad I did

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
