No One In The Sixties?

Recommended Posts

I turned 65 in December and was waiting for this birthday so I'd have Medicare and be able to have surgery. I had Gastric bypass on January 16th four weeks ago today. I'm down 32 pounds since my first doctor appointment December 30th. I'm happy but really surprised I haven't lost more. Seems like its really slow coming off for as little as I eat. I also had a seven day stall at week three and have just lost the last two pounds. Still have that little scary doubt in the back of my mind maybe it won't work for me. I'll be better after I see another 10-20 pounds come off.

Hi Boomers. I'm 65 and 23 days post op. I'm not a grandmother but still looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. This is my 3d day of stalling at the same weight but I guess that's just my body reacting to the surgery and diet. I'm 32 lbs down from surgery and 45 since liquid diet. I'm healing nicely , feeling better each day. We are Boomers; we changed the world once and now we're changing ourselves.

Hi fuzzy

Welcome... You are doing well.. Losing steadily !

Doing Protein and Water and walking seem to be the most common denominator for success that I read.

I'm 60 and not a grandma either... But a wedding next month for my son may move that along... I just smile and let the bride scurry for details. She is a wonderful girl????

I'm am 8 years out and sooo happy with my choice. Hope you will be too!

Hi Kathy,

So happy for you! I was 66 when I had my surgery two years ago and am thankful every day for that opportunity. I feel so much better than I used to. And l love that I have the energy now to play and almost keep up with the grandkids. Hope you enjoy your benefits from the wls . And it doesn't hurt that I can wear clothes and look nice in them.????

Howdy folks!

Glenn, I was just remembering my excitement the days before the surgery.

Due to BP and the mayo Clinic team I was pretty well prepared for it.

It went swimmingly for me!

No problems, no issues, no pain.

The only thing I really experience is: Now that I finally can loose weight, feeling impatient to get to my goals.

I removed my 'surgery date' ticker when I hit Onederland.

My only regret is not doing it sooner. Like in my 50s or even 40s.

I have to say I never in my wildest dreams thought I would fit into a size 6 Petite pair of jeans, but yup, went shopping and 8's were too big. Amazing though.. My BMI still says I am Obese at 31.5! Makes no sense to me! Who sets these numbers! I have to go from obese to overweight before I am normal range! Really, is normal a size zero for heaven's sake! I am a grandma (age60) wearing size 6. Couldn't be happier and I will just ignore the BMI stats!

Yeah really!

I like my curves.

I'm 61 and had RNY on Dec 1. I'm feeling great--it's only been 12 days. I lost 22 pounds so far with pre-diet and post surgery loss. Woohooo! I also have 3 grandkids and want to be around for them. I also have a disabled adult daughter and NEED to be around a long time to help her as well. Lots of reasons. I have no regrets with the surgery yet. I hope I don't ever have regrets!

I had my surgery about 10 months ago at age 60. Lost 146 pounds from my highest weight. Was at a party last night and caught a glimpse of my full reflection and thought, maybe for the first time ever, 'damn I look good". My motivation was health not looks but damn I am looking good.

Hey Everyone,

I'm 61 and had vSG on May 15th 2015. I've lost 68 lbs and am approaching my goal. I never post on the 60s forum because it seemed that there wasn't much happening here. I'm glad to find its not true! I'll be 62 in March and hoping to reach my goal by then. There's a lot of strength and wisdom in this group- let's keep posting and encouraging each other!

It's been a long time in posting anything. Had my by pass 6/21/15, the by pass itself was successful, but ran into problems. My colon was stapled and I ended up in the hospital for 21 days. Now,6 months away and I feel terrific. I ended up with snowstorms bag for 4 months as my colon healed. Total of 36 days in the hospital from 3 different surgerys. Would I do it again, yes in a minute. I've had surgery to remove the bag and retook up my insides and feel wonderful. Am inFlorida now recoooperating. I walk 3 - 5 miles a day and have no regrets!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
