Technically you never get rid of the diabetes. You just get it under perfect control as your food intake is very limited (that's what my doctors told me). I had diabetes before surgery and was on the insulin pump. After surgery I still use the insulin pump but use like 75% less insulin than I use to. My doctor said that I might decrease or completely eliminate the insulin as my weight goes down but there is no guarantee of that. I'm hoping for the best:-)

surgery date: 7/30/12

I've seen many friends leave the hospital no longer on insulin. It depends on the person. I have type 1 so I'll always be on insulin but it takes a lot less to control it. Rarely do I see a reading over 200 anymore. Only when I'm sick or stressed. Best of luck to you!!!

I had surgery on 8/13 and came home on 40 units instead of the 300 units per day and oral meds. So hopefully I can come off all meds.

I love it! I only have to change the it every 2 to 3 days so it means no poking 3 to 8 times a day. Well, only my finger to check my sugar but that's all!! I strongly suggest it for someone who pokes more than 3 times a day.

Same here Virgie. That's my goal, to get off all or at least most of my meds and/or insulin. Good luck!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
