Banded Bikers II

Recommended Posts

We are members of East TN riders club and on the 14th we had BOSB (begining of the season bash) where we donated some of the products we sell to raffle off. My husband loves to ride the dragon, but I get motion sickness and don't do well. I love going over to deals gap, my best buddy is the manager there. I am sure we will be going over in Aug. Can't wait for the rally!

The day I rode through there, I met a foursome of young men that were zipping up and down the mountain. I passed off their speed as riding crotchrockets. I learned at one of the stopping spots that they live down at the bottom of the mountain and they make that run 5 or 6 times a day when they aren't in school.

OK, it's been raining cats, dogs, moose and kangaroos around here for the last two weeks. All you lurking bikers post something about your latest ride so I'll have something to occupy my daydreams until the Republic of Texas rally.

Note to Carol, we'll be staying at the Crown Plaza, I think it is, on 35.

Hey Randy. Other than a slightly misty ride to work on Friday, we've been inundated with the rain as well. Had plans to ride to a friend's wedding yesterday up 281 but again with the rain. I'm tired of it and it can leave now...lol Actually had one of my neighbor's houses on the next street struck by lightening in Tuesday storms. Made the power in my house dip.

I did do something fun on Tuesday though. I joined the Caliente HOG chapter. I have my charter member patch too. Now I guess I'll have to get a vest to put them on. I was hoping to wait until I was smaller but I guess I'll shrink my way out of it...lol Oh yeah and Harley came out with a new helmet that matches my bike perfectly so of course....I had to get it.

Thanks for the hotel update. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet but I really can't see myself staying away from it all. May just come for Saturday so I guess I should make a hotel reservation now just in case. Only 11 more days until the first big ride to Amarillo. Hopefully the weather will be kind.

:peace:

I guess I can join now, yipeeee. My son bought him an 07 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 and I've been riding it by myself and loving it. So today my husband bought for our 25th wedding anniversary on May 31, a Honda Goldwing Aspendcande 1100. Oh I just love it. It's fully dressed with the radio, cb, gps, heat and air ducts, intercomm system, and it has a custom paint job and comes with one of those trailers that match it you pull behind you with your stuff. So, were leaving on the 30 th with it and are going on a 2 week road trip down to Florida then across to Texas, Louisiana and then where ever it leads us. I hope my band behaves while we're gone. Just wanted to introduce myself as a biker bander.

Holy crap, BeachGirl! Sounds like your old man went all out. If you can be in Austin, Texas the first weekend in June, join us for the R.O.T. rally. Things can get a bit wicked on Saturday night (the 2nd) what with Grand Funk Railroad and the Guess Who playing at the concert. But the bike parade with all the half naked people is pretty fun to watch. More details at www.rotrally.com . Whatever you do, enjoy that new dresser.

Only 3 more days until the big ride to Amarillo! I'm really excited to go. Friday I got all my chapter HOG Patches and I got a vest to put them on yesterday. Now just need to find a seamstress to sew them on for me. ;) Hopefully the weather will hold out and we'll have a nice 500 mile cruise.

Randy, I'm getting that ROT itch so I may not be able to stay away. Would really love to see The Guess Who. I've been a fan for a long time. I even put them on my new IPOD for my cruising music. I got a new headset to try out on the bike. They wrap around the ears so I think they might work better. Going to take them out for a test run here in a bit. Now that I've done my chores, it's time for a Sunday Mother's day ride. Since my baby's in California with her Marine and her baby it's the best way I can think to Celebrate my day!

Carol,

Best wishes to you on your bike ride... I know it will be a great ride. I would love to know about the music stuff.. I will be getting my bike hopefully by the end of the month... If all goes well.... Anyway, I have an I-pod and want to know if those work well.... Or what did you find that holds the music and fits well.... I tried a CD player and it would skip...

take care,

patti

Hi all! Home again and boy is my butt happy to be...lol First let's say it was a whole lot easier with 50 pounds gone! I thought I'd be achey and miserable but I really wasn't bad until the ride home today towards the end...hmm...in the end too...rear end....lol

1279.9 is what my tripometer says. Woohoo!! Longest trip for me and the bike is almost at 5000 miles. We rode up mostly in the rain and boy did I get wet. This trip was definately a lesson in how to pack for a trip. I ended up buying a rain suit in Big Springs (the oldest HD dealership in Texas) because I couldn't stand the thought of being wet any longer...lol Overall though a really great trip! Met new people, saw lots of pretty scenery and have many, many great memories to carry with me. The ride to Palo Duro Canyon on Saturday morning had over 2000 motorcycles. We rode in a long parade from the fair grounds to the canyon. Roads blocked off and lots of people in cars wishing they had left the house 5 minutes earlier...lol Luckily, I'm a little anal about getting places so we were early enough to be about 10th in the first line out. We were finished eating our cowboy Breakfast and people were still coming down the mountain and parking. Got some cool pictures. If I can get a lesson, I'll see if I can post some of them on here. After Breakfast we went riding other places and put around 200 miles on the bike. Great, great, great time. Hmm...did I mention I had a great time? :) I had a guy ask me what I rode. When I told him a Sportster he said "you rode all the way here on a Sporty? you are a real biker" That made my day!

I'm out of energy for now. Hope everyone has a great week. Luckily I took Monday off. Need to wash my Babee...she's filthy from the trip and I'm loving every spec of dirt we gathered! :peace:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
