I jumped through all the hoops that my insurance (Affinity) required, the same day that the coordinator sent in my documents I was denied. Denied because after all that I did they do not cover gastric sleeve. So now I have a choice says my surgeon either do the band or roux en y which my insurance do cover. I don’t know what to do.

I initially wanted the vertical sleeve, but found out my insurance only covers RNY, so I'm getting that. Research RNY and see if it's for you! This forum has a ton of information and great people.

The coordinator says I can keep my surgery date 8/21 I have to sign consent for the rny tomorrow and she will fax it to the insurance. I just hope the insurance don't come up with something else.

My daughter had the band and it has not proven successful. Even though the RNY is more invasive, it also provides the most successful results. She is now in the process of getting approved for a revision. Good luck to you.

Hey there! Good luck making your decision. I recently had my band removed in an urgent surgery due to slippage of the band and herniation of my stomach. I won't say don't get a band. I will say I wish I hadn't gotten a band :/ I did get my BMI from 50 to 36 and keep it there, but I've had a couple years of problems as well. I will be getting RNY sometime next year, after removing my band the surgeon discovered I had a significant amount of damage from the band that needs time to heal.

Take time to research and be comfortable with your choice, ont just rush in because you ate redy to do something now....

Good luck!!!!.

Wow sorry to hear you had such bad experience with the band. Lap band wasn't an option for me, I just wouldn't like something hanging around in my stomach. I wish you better luck with the rny. Thanks to all for the advice.

From what I have learned you loose the most weight with the RNY. I wanted the best results if I was going to have any surgery.

I signed consent today for rny and my insurance received all my documents again. I called them and they say it will take up to 72hrs to find out if I'm approved. I have surgery date on 8/21. My doctor seems to think I will get approved I'm not so sure. Sweating bullets!!!

I too was set on the sleeve but most insurance companies do not cover it :/. I liked the idea of a surgery that had almost same weight loss but that was not map absorptive. If you do the research sleeve and bypass are within 10% of weight loss numbers however it's usually a little slower. Rny has more research and thus insurance is more likely to cover it. That and it is reversible.

I hope your ready for a ride :) let us know how it's going for you

Hi

I just noticed you said your insurance was Affinity. Is that the Affinity Eden Medical Group with United Healthcare? I am asking because that is my medical group and I would like to compare requirements:) I hope you got approved for surgery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
