Recommended Posts

Ok, this is for the ladies, did any of you have weird periods after your surgery? I have thought that I was starting my period everyday this week. Then it stops. . .

Oh my.. I completely feel you on the weird cycle thing. I have an IUD so my periods went away but right after the surgery I got my period, after almost 2 years! It was weird, but they went away again! Yay!

It's probably from all the sudden drastic changes going on with our bodies...

Omg thanks for your questions and answer! I'm 9 weeks out and have an iud also and was asking my follow up nurse about this today and she said she didn't know what to tell me other than go to my obyn. I feel so much better now with hope of it going away again!

Mine was exactly like sweets I also have the IUD and I haven't had a period in 4 years and I got it the day I left the hospital and then exactly a month later I got it like clock work then it was late in march and I started to freak out thinking I was pregnant but apparently I was only gonna get a period in April and my body just wanted to skip a month! Idk about anyone else but was your period heavier than normal... Mine was horrible and lasted for about a week instead of my normal 3 day ones!

I so glad someone posted this. Before surgery, I had use medics to have a period. I would for month not having one at all. The day after my surgery, I got it but it was really light. I don't have an iud. I actually been contemplating in iud or tubes tied. Any way, since January I have been regular. Gyn doc wants to put me on birth control bills. I don't want to because I gain so much weight w them and I am very moody.

I wish I would have joined this app, before surgery.

I thought everything I was going through was not 'normal'.

I started my period for the first time in five years! (I did have a couple verrry rare occasions of spotting.) But I started four days before surgery! I wasn't bleeding much at first.. but as I was begining the healing process in the hospital, (after surgery) it started up, very heavy. Heavy periods is uncommon for me. So I went through the whole or-deal, on my period. Made things a little more difficult. :/ Happy to know, that im not in it alone...:) are we more fertile now? Eeek.

Yeah! According to my surgeon and nutritionist we become very fertile. He told me I could ovulate several times a month until thing stablize. My Gyn conformed it with me also, and told me to wait until August or close to the year mark to have tubes tied. I wish I did it soon though, iud or tubes tied.

I also had to go through the whole ordeal with my period. Was definitely uncomfortable especially when they were keeping track of how much urine I was putting out after surgery. I've been very regular but having major hormones! I'm very moody when I ovulate and crazy breast tenderness that is so uncomfortable.

My Gyn explained that our fat cells also store estrogen, melt the fat and you get a rush of estrogen...tada! It abates in time. It also means you're a little pms'y the first months when your dropping.

I hated the pms feeling so I did go back on the pill, there's a chewable version that's minty!

Ok I have a question I went to the gyno today and they took out my IUD and put me on birth control my question is will the birth control be effective because of me having gastric? I don't want to get pregnant after working my butt off to loose the 80 lbs I have and I am not getting all the nutrients for myself I don't want to have an unhealthy pregnancy!

Thanks for sharing everyone - I had tried to time my surgery appropriately but with the stress, etc. I'm feeling crampy and my surgery is 2 days away. Praying my period doesn't start before surgery or in the hospital. So awkward at hospital :(. And I usually retain 6-8 lbs of bloat before and I'm scared to death that it will look like I gained and the surgeon won't do it :(

I was told the pill was not effective. I kept with my iud and also pregnancy was out for at least 2 years. We had to sign a contract to that effect due to the Vitamin deficiencies. My sister is four years out and just had a healthy baby so it is possible... Be careful :-)

Day 2 in the hospital, my unscheduled period started and lasted for over 2 weeks. It was extremely heavy and seemed as if there was no end. Now, almost 1 month later, I feel like it is about to come back. I am on the pill, but I heard it was not as effective after gastric bypass.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
