Did Anyone Cheat On Pre-Op Liquid Diet?

Recommended Posts

I start my pre op diet on April 9th. I know it's gonna be hard but I'm gonna try and stick to it. I stopped all of the Snacks and goodies two weeks ago to prepare myself for this. I have the Adkins shakes theyre pretty good. You should try them. Also special k has Protein Water. Good luck.

I so thought I would cheat but I wanted to do good and so I pushed myself. I didn't cheat once during my preop diet. I used and still use the EAS car advantage ready made shakes, vanilla or chocolate are good. I picked them up first at Walmart but then I found they have a bulk case at sam's club and it works out to be $1.25 a shake. Not bad. Try a different shake if u don't like the one the doctor gave u. My doctor gave us a list of like 50 u can use and a list of 10 to stay away from. You can finish this journey without cheating, I know if I can then u can. Goodluck with the rest of the week and your surgery!!!

I have yet to find a Protein shake that doesn't make me gag :(. I was put on a liquid diet for 2 weeks but it seems every dr is different and they all requirw different things. I feel like I'm not gonna make it another 11 days on these nasty Protein shakes and broth :(

Have you tried the Atkins shakes. I think they're pretty good. I started my pre op diet today. I'm allowed Protein Shakes, broth, Jello and vegetables. Good luck.

So I'm on day 3 of my 15 day liquid diet. I have cheated once per day. Not huge like yesterday i had some popcorn and today I had some rice :(. I can't stand the Protein shakes I got from the doctor and I feel the need to at least put something in my tummy :(

I am on day 15 of my 28 day pre op liquid diet. I do have to admit that after 13 days of drinking nothing but four shakes a day and some diet come, I cheated on Easter morning and had a hard boiled egg, ok two eggs lol. And today I cheated and had a piece of cheese. Also in the last two weeks I have had maybe 3 or 4 sugar free jellos. Im not a big fan of Jello but st least it makes me feel somewhat full. My surgey is scheduled for April 23 2012

I just started my pre op diet yesterday. I only have to do it for two weeks. I can't imagine 28 days. My surgery is also April 23rd.

It was hard for the first few days. I only drank four shakes and a can of diet coke. Then at around day four I lost my appetite totally. But I have a one yr old and a three yr old so feeding them is hard when your stomachs growling and u just want one little bite but I kept telling myself one little bite isn't going to fill me so why bother but Easter I gave in and ate two boiled eggs. 13 days in. Now today (11th) is day 17. I'd settle for celery at this point lol.

It's a lot easier when there are ppl around u are supportive. In the beginning of my liquid diet my family was a little more supportive then they are now. Really makes me irritated when I'm so hungry my stomachs growling and then have to sit and watch my boyfriend gulp down McDonalds. I keep telling myself this is my journey not his but I wish he would be more supportive.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
