I just got my blood test results and my Vitamin D level is lower than it was 1 1/2 years ago! I started this process back in 2012 then backed out. I started again now and had to have the tests done again. My vit. d is lower and my pth is higher. I did some reading and it says this could be hyperthyroidism and also talks about osteoporosis! I've been taking 2000 iu of D for over a year now. Now I'm afraid this will put my surgery in jeopardy! Has anyone else had this problem?

I naturally have a low vit d level. When it came back low during the pre work, they sent me to my primary doctor and she put me on prescription pill, I think it is 50k mil grams once a week. I need to go back and get retested. I don't think it will delay your surgery. But I meet my surgeon on Wednesday, so I will let you know if I am wrong.

I've had a vit d deficiency for 6+ years now. But I've found that taking the 5,000 I I per day is the only thing that brought it up..but it doesn't seem to be an issue with surgery. Mine gets scheduled Thursday.

I'm low on Vitamin d as well. My PCP told me to take 1000 IUD a day. Spoke to my surgeon today and he said I need to up it to 5000 IUD a day for at least 10 weeks so I end up with 50k units

Mine is always low due to Polycystic Ovarian syndrome. My surgeon put me on 20,000 a day for a month, it came up. Now I am at 10,000 a day. You can overdose on it, so definitely check with the doc :)

I am 6 months post-op. Had a marginally low Vitamin D before surgery and again at 5 month check up. I am not totally compliant with the supplements. Seems like so much work. The Calcium has to be separate from the Multivitamin and the Multivitamin makes me so nauseous. I ordered all of my meds from Bariatric Advantage. Does this happen to anyone else ? What are good Multivitamins?

I take 50,000 once a week as well and have for 3 years. Surgeon looked at my labs and didn't say anything so I think it's ok.

At my first appt I was put on 50 k a week. I was told if it was too low that it could delay my surgery until it rose to a certain level

Do you know what your Vitamin D level is?

Mine has been down in the teens for years. Just this summer I got it up to 28. Usually it hovers around 12-18.

GomeKast, I suggest that you up your Vitamin D intake to 10,000 IU per day.

You can see on this page that optimal levels of Vitamin D are around 50 ng/ml.

You can see on this page that the standard dosage is 4000 IU, but it is safe to take 10,000 IU per day.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
