December seems so far away! I haven't been approved yet but, I am hoping since my last weigh in is December 5th my insurance will approve it in time for me to be sleeved by the end of December. Anyone one else out there not yet approved and hoping for a December sleeve? I see quite a few people already have their December date. How did your date get scheduled out so far in advance? My Dr. probably won't even try to schedule me until my insurance gives the OK.

Me, me, me!! I am not schedule yet but hoping for an early December date.

I am self pay and I could technically have it next month but I'm hoping to get the upper GI and EKG covered by insurance....which doesn't kick in until November 1!

So, I've done a support group meeting, a nutritian meeting and then this week is my psych eval. Then after the upper GI and EKG, I can schedule it.

I have bad recoveries, long painful recoveries, and therefore would prefer to wait until after Thanksgiving. I don't care so much about the eating, but I don't want to be miserable cooking it and we're the ones who host my family.

So, hoping for first Thursday in December!

You're doing self pay? Is your insurance is paying for the upper GI and EKG's? I am hoping since I am scheduling after the holiday I will be done with all the holiday food hoopla. I can manage a night in for new years eve. Good luck with your recovery. Hopefully this one will be a little easier for you. I have never had a surgery so I don't know how my recovery will be. I bounced back after the birth of my son. I was walking around everywhere three days out. Hoping for the same. We can be December sleeve buddies!!!

I am hoping that my insurance will pay for the upper GI and EKG. My hope is that my PCP can order them and then they will be covered. I've had reflux issues for a year since my gallbladder was removed so I am hoping she can use that as a reason to order an upper GI. She is the one who suggested the weight loss surgery so I am hoping that means she will help out!

I haven't had much done but enough to know it won't be pretty!

When I was 28, had tonsils removed, which was bad but also my first experience with surgery and/or prescription pain meds.

Last year, gallbladder. My 73-yo mom had hers removed the year prior, she was loopy for 3 days and doesn't even remember anything! I couldn't stand up straight for 2 weeks! Also during the gallbladder recovery, I had a small basal cell carcinoma spot removed from my upper chest. Thought it would be no big deal....UGH! It took 2 vials of numbing stuff just to numb the area.

Apparently, pain meds don't work the same on me. Or as my gallbladder surgeon said, I have a low tolerance for pain (which makes me sound like a big baby!)

So things that end in -codone do nothing for me. They don't even make me loopy.

He said he would try dilaudid.

Fingers crossed for something!

So glad to have a surgery buddy!

OMG! I never take pain medication...not even Advil for a headache so I'm just "assuming" I will be good with whatever is prescribed. Oh gawsh two weeks of pain. I think I would shoot myself in the foot, just so the pain can be directed elsewhere. Good luck with your approvals. It would be nice to know the Dr.'s are actually on our side...instead of it being for the almighty $$$. December buddies yeah!!!

I'm also hoping for Dec :) of this year. I've never had any type of surgery; therefore, I have never taken meds beside over the counter meds. The only thing keeping me from having surgery in November :( is having a long Waite list for a sleep study that is required. So, keeping my fingers crossed that the days go by fast lol

Yes, welcome welcome!! That must be some details sleep study. Does your insurance have a waiting period? I'm in California, I've got to wait 6 months. Getting my Protein in 2x's a day is HARD and I don't really eat lunch so you would think it would be easy for me. I always forget to drink it!!!!

:) I'm so glad I found this awesome support.. We'll, I'm paying out of pocket because my insurance will not cover the sleeve but will cover other procedures. The sleep study center in our town is the only one for many counties therefore they are popular lol. So?? What type of Protein shakes are you drinking ?

I was just drinking 100% whey (vanilla) but now I have switched to ON hydro platinum whey. It's better with milk than Water.

I'm self pay so I had to go through the seminar, do a consult with the surgeon and he agreed I was a good candidate for the sleeve and approved me. Then I walked out of his office to his office manager and I got to schedule my surgery and pre-op appointments. No muss, no fuss.

I've been attending group sessions - I think everyone regardless of being self-pay or insurance has to attend at least one. I've attended three. I will have all of my pre-op work done and meet with the nutritionist on one day and then I'll be set to go on the 16th.

Had I wanted I could have probably already had surgery by now but I really wanted to have it in December so I have plenty of time to recuperate.

So glad to see the December thread getting some action! It will be here before we know it!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
