october 9th surgery date the nerves and worry kicking in

Recommended Posts

hi all i am a 49 year old man in the UK (cheltenham Gloucestershire) with very little support and this website forum is a godsend..i have been on this battle all my life and at my heaviest was around 38 stone..i lost big chunks of weight and it always started to creep back on so 3 years ago after a relationship break up it was a lightbulb above the head moment and i decided i had had enough of being the fat bloke every one stared at and decided on wls and after 3 years struggle i have at last got my surgery date of October the 9th 2013 !!..

i have been on an 800 calorie a day diet for the last 2 weeks and have lost another 17lb but would not break that diet as too scared to eat as the nerves are beginning to creep in and yes a little doubt but i know without the vsg barrier the weight would return..i will be going into hospital on my own and have my pre op on the 2nd October..i have never had an operation or broke a bone or had a stitch and for a man of my size ( now around 26 stone) i am reasonably fit ..so any support from fellow strugglers or sleevers would be great as as i said im pretty much on my own ..thanks all Richard xxx

Nerves are completely normal, surgery is a big deal! But the odds of something bad happening are very, very small.

I was kind of in the same place as I didn't have any local family or friends to support me in the hospital or immediatley post-op. In a way that was kind of good, though, as I had nothing to do but focus on my own recovery. I didn't have to waste my time explaining stuff to other people or sitting around trying to enjoy "company" in the hospital when I should have been focusing on sipping and walking. Keep in mind that your two main jobs post-op are sipping and walking, and just take care of those!

I had no problems with my recovery and like you, I turned to this board a lot for information when I needed it. I am sure you will do great! Be sure to keep checking in :)

My surgery is Oct 7. I am really nervous and worried about leaks and blood clots. But to combat this I try to focus on all the positive things in my future. The two week liquid diet is putting me to the test. I am so glad that most people are glad to help and answer our questions. Good luck to you.

This forum is fabulous! I'm on day 8 of my pre op liquid diet, and my surgery is on October 1st. I've been coming to this forum every day for support and so far, I haven't cheated once on my pre op diet! So you definitely have support here. :-) Keep posting and checking in! Good luck!!

My date is October 9th too; that's makes us sleeve siblings. I'm not nervous yet, but I know next week I'll be a nervous wreck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
