Thanks Sophie,

and I love that quote too by anng. This morning I woke up and felt a lot better...'no grummy feelings!' Over the yrs I have bought about 15 + diet books, and I looked on my shelf, and found one I hadnt really read similar to the ones you quoted, its called: Overcoming Overeating (conquer your obsession with food) by Jane Hirschmann & Carol Munter. I bought this book yrs ago, so Im finally gonna read it. Thats a really good tip, reading about why we over eat whilst recovering from the op, and after, so you address the emotional leavel, as well as the physical level.

Hi Scarlett, yes I am english and live in the UK, I live in Dorset, in the sticks. I live in a place called the 'Purbecks' near corfe castle and Swanage, by the sea and the Purbeck hills, but I work all over the South West of the UK (Dorset, Hampshire, Devon, Somerset, Isle of Wight etc). Where did you used to live here?

Kyethra, I agree being nice to my DH is needed badly at the moment, I have been awful to him lately, its not done on purpose, but I have been really tetchy, and irritable. I woke up this am though feling much better, hopefully once this weeks out of the way, I will be back to my old normal self!!

Love Sara xx

Ok,

Last night DH took me to Red Lobster! I had the Lobster Lovers Dream. I think this week will be a week of last supers for me. We arent going to go food shopping. Just bring home dinner. Today I am not as nervouse as I have been. My poor mommy lost her job. She was a receptionist in a law firm for 15 years. Last year her boss died and he was the head partner. Since then others have left and there are only 2 partners left so they said they cant afford to pay her anymore. She was pretty upset, but was looking for another job anyway. She is 62, but a very young 62! She may just take off and collect for now, and hope something good comes her way. Now she can come to the hospital with my DH for my sugery though! I never expected that. I was always very independant as a child so she wasnt always there for me in certain situations. (like when I was in college and went from 170-113 in 3 months from puking everyday (cough cough) she said she figured it was "my" body. Well she is 5'4, blonde hair, blue eyes, size 7 since she eats almost nothing.)

Well back to reality! Sorry I ranted dont know where all that came from.

Anyways 5 days till sugery ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Anyway my biggest concern for my journey was that I have chosen never, ever, to eat or drink anything using any type of sugar free substitutes. I hate it. YUCK!

I feel even if I am a slow loser, I will be ok with my decision.

When I met with the dietitian I shared my concerns, she said I do not see a problem, if I was to have the Gastric Bypass I would have to have sugar free for the rest of my life for "dumping". But not a concern with the lapband.

Also I am a huge ice tea addict. Just ice tea from a tea bag, ice, and a squeeze of lemon.

Since being home I have had regular popsicles, regular Jello, and broths. Then went to full liquids having regular fudgcicles, and puddings and custards, and yogurts and coco wheats. I am however having fat free cream Soups.

So I went to the hospital weighing 266 I crested at my highest from the IV's at 271. I am now officially 5 days post op and I am down 15 lbs at 256.:clap2:

So here is my thought.....you have surgery, your body is in complete shock, then you recover by being told to have only sugar free products and broth. I think that you throw your body into a survival starvation mode. I feel that you need some sugar and calories to stabilize your system. My thought may come back and bite me in the tush, but I am not convinced sugar free with the chemicals is the best. I would love your thoughts ,I think :nervous. Yikes!

Here is a rumor I heard, for every hour that you are under sadation, that is how many days you will feel foggy from the anestitia(SP)?

I am feeling much better.

Good luck to everyone having surgery next week.

Hello march bandsters! I am scheduled for surgery on the 30th. Iam trying not to think about it being so close. Anyway is there anything you wish you would've done to be better prepared for your surgery, For example: things you did not buy, things you needed but did not have while in the hospital etc. I am a make a list person and i don't want to forget anything. Thanks for your help!

The Magic Bullet blender has been great for the mushies stage - My meals would have been much more boring without the ability to blend up the meals I prepared for my family.

HOLY MOLY!!

I am on soft foods now and I was eating very soft cooked veggies yesterday. I did not eat slowly enough or chew well enough for the first couple of bites (out of habit). All of a sudden I had a golf ball flare of pain inthe middle of my chest - it brought tears to my eyes. I didn't PB but I felt like I was going to die.

I called my surgeon and he said that is part of the "behavioral conditioning" of the band. No kidding - I don't want to ever go through that again!! - It only lasted a few minutes but it got my attention.

Hi "Late",

I had my surgery March 20th in Mexico (Dr.Ortiz). For some reason, though I have had many surgeries before, this one really did freak me out beforehand. I was banded the same day as 2 other women and every one of us was totally surprised at how easy a time we had (everyone's different, I know that!). So, try to relax, though I sure do understand that is easier said than done. The one thing that really, really helped with MY postop soreness and gas was the heating pad EVERYONE recommends. That, plus walking as much as you can. I even survived the all day trip home, cross the border, in the San Diego airport, plane ride, airporter bus....ugh! But I was fine, just tired and sore when I got home.......and SOOOOOOO glad to be HOME! and have the surgery DONE! YAY! Oh, and although the GAS-X thing doesn't help everyone, but it sure did help me with some of the gassiness, so I would have them handy. They did give me medicine for the gas in the hospital/clinic, but the strips really helped in the first few day after the surgery. The whole postop diet/food situation seems to be so dependent on what your doc tells you, how you live, etc. I stocked up on stuff that was recommended on these boards and it turned out Dr. Ortiz's nutritionist thinks Jello is a solid. Fine with me, I have no cravings for Jello. If you are the type that wants everything pre-made, then stock up on all the things you've seen on the lists. But today is day 5 post surgery and I am supposed to be on full liquids and am bored with canned/boxed soups/chicken broth and am using the Magic bullet to whip up my own "full liquid" Soups, with no chunks. Especially because, with type 2 diabetes, the juice they gave me in the hospital sent my blood sugar through the roof, so am sticking to protein-based liquids. Anyway, ramble, ramble......just wanted to let you know it is going to be FINE. And SUCH a relief!

AMRDMR

Hi SnowAngel,

Don't be scared....it wasn't that bad. Yes, you will have some gas pains but in 3 or 4 days they will subside. I had my surgery last Tuesday and was out all day yesterday with my son shopping. The only discomfort I have is the gas pains but as I said it's getting easier each day. Just think about Tuesday....surgery will be behind you and your new journey will be ahead. I'll be praying for you......Reesh

I was banded on 3/16 and I too have had the chills but no fever. It seems I am always cold.

Stacy

Cold here, too!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
