November buddies where are you?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was one week ago today (on 11.12.13) and I have yet to get all my liquids in for one day - 64 ounces of Water and 4 Protein Drinks.< /p>

For those of you who are ahead of me on this journey, how long did it take to get to the point where you were consuming all that was required? Any advice to help increase intake?

How am I feeling? I have not thrown up at all, my incisions are healing great, I have a rash from being allergic to the steri-strips, I still have gas pains in my left shoulder, I don't feel like I've done 1000 sit-ups anymore (only 500 now!) and I am taking my Vitamins faithfully. I'm off diabetic medication completely and have had normal blood sugar numbers since coming home. I have really bad morning breath and feel like my mouth is coated in something. And I have lost 28 pounds as of this morning. 15 pounds from my two week pre-op and 13 since surgery.

Congratulations and good luck to everyone!

~Susan.

You know honestly I have not been able to get all my liquids in either. Its hard. So just know there's some of us out there who are having the same issue. I am 2 weeks out and hope I can get use to it eventually. Good luck on ur journey!

Your doing well it sounds like! Can someone tell me how long there recuperation take? I am only taken three full days then working half days until I'm completely healed. Did anyone feel fine enough to go right back to work? I am doing VSG.

Jen-

You have to walk. And walk. And walk some more. Instant gratification. It hurts to get up but once you start walking you feel better. I promise!

Skinny scarlet-

I read your post, I feel very similar to you. The mouth thing really bothered me and it turned out to be thrush. Gross. It's a yeast infection in your mouth from all the antibiotics they pump into us during surgery. Call your dr and see if you need a special mouth rinse. That yucky mouth is nasty!

Good luck in the healing process!

Best wishes and luck to all!!

yes it does help, but I can only walk so much before I'm beat. I wish it would just pass already.

Jen I've been told by my pre-admission nurse that heating pad help but walking is a must. My PT gave me exercises to do in the hospital also Nothing too strenuous. Keep walking.

CHALLENGE! November sleevers! http://www.dailymile.com/ is a great website where you can track your mileage that you walk/run/bike/etc. I have created on challenge on this site for just us! I challenge YOU to walk/run 365 miles before december 1st, 2014. That is one mile a day for a year after our surgery!

I have made the challenge 'invite only' so you will have to add me as a friend on dailymile (Sarah Kuiper) then I can invite you! It's a great way to encourage everybody in exercise in addition to eating. The challenge says NOTHING about being a sleever, so you don't have to worry about privacy issues. What do you all think?! Feel free to ask me any questions!

I am now 17 days Post Op. I have been at a stall for 9 days. I am still trying not to get too discouraged over it. Overall I am doing well still. I feel good gas pains pretty much gone. Eating well, trying to get all those liquids in is a pain in the butt. For those with questions about the gas pains its pretty much time that makes them better. Like others have said walking, heating pad and some use gas x. But most of all its time, the days will get easier I promise. Keep us updated all The November sleevers, We want to hear everyone's progress whether good or bad!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
