Having difficulty getting water in. 4 days post op

Recommended Posts

I love all the advice on this site but never posted anything. I'm 4 days post op but having a terrible time getting all my Water in. It feels like it gets stuck. Haven't tolerated Jello or broth very well either. Otherwise, I feel good. Been out walking and no pain meds required. When will this feeling subside?

Have you tried different temps of Water? Some can only take ice cold, while others only tolerate room temp or warm.

It will subside at some point and hopefully sooner for you.

I had problems with drinking ANY Water, warm, cold or room temp plain or flavored with crystal light etc..

I could drink hot or iced Decaf tea or coffee though. Go figure.

Pre-sleeve I drank lots of water but post- sleeve a few sips hit my stomach like a rock and made me feel really woozy.

I ended up drinking lots of broth, coffee and tea and kept trying sips of water each day.

At 3 1/2 months out I could finally start drinking water again without feeling a wave of nausea.

I was very happy when that day came!!! It still doesn't feel quite normal yet but 99% improvement.

I HOPE you don't have to wait that long. I think I'm in a minority with my water-drinking skills ;)

I have heard that different Water temps can help as well. Some people have a hard time drinking ice cold water, as some tolerate room temp. water alot easier. I havent had my sleeve yet so I cant really say I can relate but I have read alot and watched endless videos

Also at my 2 week post-op check up I told the Dr I was not meeting my liquid intake and why.

He said it was totally normal and to just do the best I could do with any liquid.

SF popsicles were a life-saver at that time.

Try different temps it worked for me. I also chewed on ice. It kinda slides down and soothes the troat. I was about 1 week post op when I felt like I had a handle on drinking and at 6 months you will get your fluids in no prob. It gets better by the day.

I had my lapband out and got my sleeve on 9/12/13 Im having a difficult time getting in all of my Isopure. they want me to take 1 1/2 bottles per day. I have found that ice chips work pretty well which is funny because after my band only warm fluids worked well.

Also, my Dr wants me to take 3 chewable vitamins each day. I cant fathom getting even one down today. Will try tomorrow.

I am 7 days post-op and I know how you feel. Plain Water of any temperature didn't work for me, and I can't choke down Protein Shakes or anything milky. I have been drinking the Propel Zero water at room temp and I just realized in the last 3 hours I've finished closed to 16oz! (This is a record for me so far, lol). I also feel like the water gets caught up on little chunks all the way down my throat, which is really unpleasant. Hopefully you and I will both be sipping liquids like champs in a few days- good luck! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
