I am post op day 4 and Im really craving food. In fact I logged in just to rant about wanting some food but this post helped.

Thank you.

I am only 3 months post op but I definitely remember those early days all to well! I think the worst thing I dealt with was the full realization that my life had changed and the head hunger was a true beast that was unrelenting for a couple of weeks. I cried, craved, bitched, picked fights you name it but finally I it got better. It is a hard time when you are reorganizing your old eating habits and changing your menu in such a drastic fashion. I promise you though it does get better and you begin to look at new foods with an appreciation you never had before. Your weight starts dropping and your clothes fit better. Suddenly life is better and you are trying foods again and you start thinking positive thoughts and realize this is okay and life is good! When you can start back to eating more foods make them healthy and nourishing to your new life. Stay away from those darn carbs! It was hell getting away from them and eating them just draws you back in and slows the weight loss. Hang in there you have already lost 20 pounds and your a lot stronger than you realize!

It takes a strong person with a lot of determination to do what you have done! :)

Thanks for the reassuring response. I am at that stage now where I feel like I've gotten a tattoo and I'm not quite sure if I like it or not. I just attempted to warm up some broth and I added some chicken broth flavored Protein Powder. The smell affected me in a very adverse way. I almost threw up which would be AWFUL right now. I flipped the stove off real quick, moved the pot and had to leave the room.

On my blog, I post photos once in a while of what I eat, and how much I eat. If you need any more reassurance that soon, all of you will be enjoying yummy food, go there and search for "what I eat" and you will see some of the wonderful, normal foods that await you--and keep in mind I'm only 6 weeks out and have only been eating food for 3 of those.

I love your blog so much. You've really been a great inspiration to me through this whole journey.

Have you tried Premier Protein drinks? They have 30g of protein and are really pretty good. A lot of us do use these. You can get them at Sam's or costco but Sam's is cheaper. This will help you to get your protein easily. Try treating yourself to a good Soup broth and just doing a Protein Drink on the side. Go to a Panera and just eat the broth from some chicken noodle soup it is important to get quality out of the little bit that you can eat. Even if it is tough to get it all in some good flavor is very uplifting right now. Take care and treat yourself!! :)

I was eating shrimp at that point. The problem is you are still learning when you are actually full and when to stop. I am 3 months out and honestly am just getting the hang of it. I went to dinner with my husband tonight and ordered a fish sandwich dinner and had the waiter make it grilled fish no bun, lose the fries and gave me sauteed greenbeans instead and I ordered a side salad with it. I only ate a 1/4 of the salad, 1/2 the greenbeans and 1/2 of the fish. Tomorrow I will finish the fish and greenbeans. It takes a little practice to know when you are full, I was overeating even though I was trying not to. I found that when I start getting a slight feeling of getting full I stop because in another minute I will feel totally full. You have to become more alert to your stomach and taming your mind that you have to stop even though it tastes really good and you think you can get a couple more bites in. Those are the killers....those 2 extra bites. :)

I feel food going down and i think i am full when i feel my chest tighten up.. I think i was able to eat all that shrimp because i was drinking Water with it. I went to costco today and bought frozen salmon and filets. They were in boxes. I baked 2 filet and i only can eat half and the wife ate 1 filet. Good fish.. I saved the half for tomorrows lunch.< /p>

Well I am glad you enjoyed your shrimp but no water! :) Keep changing up your menu so you don't get bored with your food and will do great! :)

Beach Lover, those extra two bites are a killer. I just switched from the baby spoon to grown up silverware and I find it is harder to judge. The baby spoon allowed a little more time for the full feeling to happen. This is such a process, but I really am loving it.

Kitkat, I can't wait to see the day when I crave broccoli!!!! I've been ordering samples of Protein drinks and "practicing" for when I have a sleeve, right now with a vanilla Protein shake before bed. Bedtime after work is my hardest time, when I crave carbs and am tired.

Endless, I ordered some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury broths, but it seems like you are not supposed to heat them up above 130 degrees, they even give you a thermometer with the sample pack. Maybe that's why it smelled bad?

It really helps to hear from you all!

I hated having to drink any kind of broth. The liquid diet before and after the surgery was really hard for me. I just kept pressing through and reminding myself it was only temporary. I still have a hard time getting my Water in. I've done really bad the past couple of days with it and can tell today that I'm getting dehydrated so today my main focus is my Water.< /p>

I'm glad this forum is helpful to you. That's what we are all here for - to help and support each other. You can find some good tips on here and I have found it helpful in knowing that some of the things I've experienced others have experienced as well and is normal. It's really a journey nobody fully understands unless they themselves are going through it or have been through it but it's a journey I am 150% glad that I've chosen. :)

I have always enjoyed my vegetables but I think our bodies tell us when we need something and it comes in the form of cravings. Our mind tells us when we want something also but it usually isn't good for us. That is a "I want it." but I just feel a sense or need for vegetables and am enjoying the limited amount that I can have. You might not ever want broccoli but I think you will find yourself wanting vegetables more than you did before the sleeve. Good luck with your surgery by the way! :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
