Having a total meltdown in my kitchen. I'm 1 week post-op and today's the 1st day of puréed/soft food under my plan. I've been looking forward to my 2 tbsp of mashed potatoes for days. Days! And now I can't find the dry potato flakes in the pantry.

We bought them before surgery, so I know they were here. And my wife doesn't like instant potato so she didn't eat them. But- she decided to take advantage of my weird eating after surgery to go back to eating vegan - which she's been wanting to do for a whole and I have no interest in. She cleaned out the pantry the day before my surgery.

Now I'm sitting here in tears, blaming her and crying and throwing random boxes on the floor like a toddler.

Crazy hormones suck. No wonder divorce rates are so high.

Some people have complained of pain with mashed potatoes.

I miss them but i'm not even going to try them because of the stuff i've read.

Just have some chili, it'll be okay. Theres a ton of Protein in it. ;)

Take a deep breath...you're only a week post-op...your body is tired, sore, in the process of healing, and it is craving nutrients; the lack there of has everything out of balance. Your emotional toddler tantrum is normal at the height of this post-op healing time. So, go find a quiet place. Cry if you have to. Gather yourself together, take deep breaths, and figure out what you have to do. Do you need to go buy some mashed potato flakes? During this stage I was allowed scrambled eggs. Are you allowed that, with some cheese? What other soft food options do you have? In the calm after the storm, problem solve and find a solution that works for you.

You're going to do fine. Before you know it the worst of the post-op dieting will be over and you're going to be rocking that sleeve like its nobodies business! Good luck to you and your journey.

I'm with Lily, you want to start with the good habits now. You wont' get any real nutritional value from mashed potatos. Maybe it's a sign! I hope you find something that will satisfy you, it will get easier.

Feel better.

Good luck!

I ended up with a few tears and a tbsp of humus : )

And I know mashed potatoes aren't the best, but figured adding nutritional yeast and unflavored Protein powder would help.

Thanks for letting me vent : ).

Any way to help even out some of these crazy mood swings?

Jersey, your weightloss is amazing!

Thanks, I lost a nice amount before surgery, but by far this has been the greatest thing I've ever done.

@HumorMe, I'm so glad you vented. I think if we don't we are bound to go bonkers!

That 's what we are here for, support, an ear.. whatever necessary.

It is hard when your diet is limited and you can't have what you are craving. To keep me sane, I started collecting recipes I wanted to try as my diet advanced. One fantastic recipe was "Shelly's Ricotta Bake" Tastes like lasagna. It is either on emilybites.com or theworldaccordingtoeggface.com Both sites have a ton of great recipes for all stages of your plan.

Vent when you need to, we are all in the same boat. It will get better.

With the mood swings, staying hydrated helps alot - AND they may not me mood swings in the traditional sense, if you are deep into ketosis, that can make you feel really odd.

Analyze how you are feeling - for example do you feel like you could be confrontational? easily distressed? do you feel light-headed, easily disoriented?

I usually ask myself how I would quickly respond to a few scenarios, and that helps figure out where I am at on my "map o' emotions", If someone picked at me or laughed at me would I be hurt, or angry or maybe laugh with them, but really embarassed? THEN I do something that I know for me puts me back more in the path to feeling OK. If I am feeling light or easily distracted, I try to do the things that will not take alot of concentration, just consistent effort. If I am easily angered, I try to exercise really hard, or take it out on the punching bag, then get very still and let it go. If I am really upset, I try to find why I am upset, figure out if I need to fix it or let it go, and proceed.

I hope that helps.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
