Approved for Surgery & No one to tell

Recommended Posts

So I was approved for surgery on Thursday Sept 5th, I'm just waiting for my date from my surgeon(s). I have to have another surgery while my sleeve is done. Therefore there will be 2 surgeons at once. I have a large Benign mass in my belly that has to come out as well because it is causing problems and pain. This is going to make my surgery long and more invasive so I'm a little more afraid than most I think.

The hardest part is I've told my family and friends about the mass surgery but not my VS..only my very best friend and daughter know and they both live out if town. I am very very private about the VS because I just don't want to hear any negative talk, my mom has been against it for years and she won't understand. So now I'm going to have to drill my surgeons on not giving them full disclosure if my condition. SMH.,I know crazy right? But can a girl have some privacy and make her own choices?

I am so tired of the sleep apnea, joint pain and taking high blood pressure pills. Not to mention having to energy to do anything. I'm excited about my surgery...yes a little scared but so in love with a new life and second chance to take care of my body. Anyone have to have multiple surgeries at the same time...?

Thanks

MsK

I am sorry you can't freely change your wonderful news. Congrats. I think most Dr understand with HIPPA laws about discretion. Good Luck

Families can be hard, do what you think is best and I'm sure your doctors will respect your wishes.....with HIPPA they have too :) Best of luck to you!

I only told my husband and children also. People argue all the time about "secrets" and "Shame". It has nothing to do with that. The bottom line is, it's nobody's damn business! I don't live my life as an open book so why would i disclose personal medical issues? Also, I don't care to hear people's opinions because most would say I didn't need it...I say walk in my shoes before judging! Believe me, most people I know who freely tell about their weight loss surgery are surrounded by people who claim to be happy for them, yet trash talk them behind their backs!

I so agree with all of you, thank you so much for your feed back. I am always so open and honest about things, so I was feeling guilty, but you're right it's nobody's business but mine.

My gall bladder acted up 2 weeks before my sleeve surgery was scheduled. My doctor reluctantly took it out, he wanted to wait and do it at the same time but the gall bladder was too messed up. So I had the surgeries weeks apart.

I was glad to get rid of that pesky gall bladder anyway. It messed up my second honeymoon in a beautiful cabin in the Smoky Mountains. Good riddance!

You have a right to your privacy. It is up to you whether you want to put your relatives straight about things and tune up their stinkin' thinkin'.

When your body changes you'll have some 'splainin' to do though. ^_^

I had a stomach tumor also. Even though tumors are rare I apparently 'won' the lottery. I had a deep muscle tumor that was also mucosal, and ran almost the lenth of my great chamber! It was not just polyps, it was folded upon itself, and was separating from the stomach, causing bleeding. I was in soooo much pain. Ironically, they missed it with 3 endoscopies, and 2 ultrasounds. It was found AFTER I had already lost abot 40 lbs. I only had one doctor, but it is a complicated story from there.

Good luck, but we are aleady lucky that our tumors were benign!

Yes I know i will have explaining to so...I've already prepared them for my weight loss telling them that this complicated tummy surgery will cause it..Lol! I know I should laugh but my family is a trip so I have to have all of my bases covered.

As for you my friend that had the large mass in your belly..God Bless you, mine is deep in there behind my bowel so my surgery could take 5 hours easy. That part is scary but I know The Lord has my back. ;-)

I had to do the same thing! My support team consist of my husband, son, 2 sisters, 2 best friends(1 with lap band), 2 nieces(both gastric bypass), my mother in law( I had to tell her so she could take care of the baby) that's it! It may seem like a lot of people but I left out some siblings and nieces lol! I didn't want to hear the negative remarks and opinions. Even my M.I.L asked if I die does she get the baby? I know WTF, but I'm scheduled for next week Tuesday and I am so excited to be able to lotion my legs and feet, tie my shoes(my 17 year old does it now) :( and to be able to be active with my children (17 years and 15 months old). I have so many reasons for wanting to improve my health. It's sad that we can't talk to our family about it but I'm glad we found each other and can reveal our inner most VSG thoughts lol! Pray for me though cause I'm on liquids starting today and I'm craving corned beef lol

I had my gallbladder removed and a hiatal hernia repaired. I'm one week post op and I feel almost normal. I also did not need any pain meds afterward.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
