Not surprising! There are may in the pulpit that claim knowledge of the scriptures, but are spiritually blind. There is a big difference between having a head knowledge and having spiritual understanding.

Ahh, so it comes back to "feelings".

You keep stating that I have all the wrong facts about why people believe as the do when they are an athiest. So then put me streight and tell me what the real facts are.

More then one person has told you. You've dismissed them with "I've never seen an Athiest like that". I think you have it backwards, you've decided what an Athiest is, and then cram everyone into that box.

I’m sorry, but you remind me of too many Christians I know. Who stir things up, then act innocent and persecuted when they get a reaction. Confusing reaction to them and how they present things with what is in fact being presented.

It’s not your Christianity, IMHO, that is under discussion here. It’s your coming onto a site that is mainly a site about Lap-Banding that does have threads on other topic. And your first thread has nothing to do with Lap-Banding. You then question someone about their nickname, and in pretty short order are saying that you don’t believe she really knows what she believes or why she believes it. That is what you are getting reactions to. Not being a Christian.

It's not illogical at all! Those who are spiritually blind cannot have spiritual incite and understanding. If you know the scriptures as you claim , then you should be familiar with -

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:for they are foolishness unto him:neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Who is to say who is spiritually blind and who are not??? The Bible does !!

This is an illogical statement. Who is to say who are spiritually blind and who are not?

Of course they are attacks! Don't be silly! And as a moderator, you should be above that. You advertise that you are an athiest, but get spastic when someone else dare's to talk about their religious views. That moniker if there to incite debate or it would not be there. Can you at least own up to that??
I'm silly. Ok. That title is not there to incite debate. It has been there for, as I said earlier, maybe 2 years -- and has not yet incited a debate. Not until you, anyway. If my goal was debate, and my title was the my means, I would have changed it to something else long ago, as unsuccessful as it has been.
got all bent out of shape.
Far from bent out of shape. I'm train wreck amused. As I said, if this is "bent out of shape" to you, wowzer!
Darling,
Don't patronize me. You'd get a lot farther with your "debating", a lot quicker, if you'd show some respect.
I have been in messianic minsitry for 30 years! If you think I have had a passive life, you are not dealing in reality.
Oh, then you KNOW that nothing that has happened here has been a "viscous attack". My bad.
You keep stating that I have all the wrong facts about why people believe as the do when they are an athiest. So then put me streight and tell me what the real facts are.
But you've already said you're "right". And it's not my obligation to "put you straight", nor could it happen, per your own admission. You can't put "right" straight.

Me smell troll. More and more.

Thanks to you too!

See, we can get along even when I'm right and you are wrong... :heh:

Seriously, it's much more interesting when we don't all agree. We don't have to in order to understand each other.

If you smell Troll, perhaps you need deodorant!!

Do you have the capacity to at least be honest?? Yesterday you told me that your moniker has been the subject on many debates and everything that could be discussed about it has beed discussed - or something to that effect. Today you say that it "has not yet incited a debate" in 2-years. So were you wrong yesterday or today??

Patronize you! Sweetheart, judging from your pic, I am old enough to be your father, and respect comes form receiving respect. You have a lot to learn.

You tell me I have all the facts wrong, but come up with all these lame reasons whay you don't want to give me the "real" facts! It appears that you just like to make comments and say nothing.

Regarding attacks! For some reason this thread seems to attract a large number of athiests, many of whom have jumped into the arena to take their shots at my posts. I have no problem with that and feel confident enough in what I believe to substanciate what I believe. Attack away!

It's quite simple! For instance, Bible History is a popular course taught in many secular colleges. One can come away from that course with a historical knowledge and still know little about the spiritual and prophetic nature of the scriptures.

Ron, I have a question for you, and it’s not meant as an attack. You’ve said that you believe as you do because the Bible is provable. I think you used the term “proven Faith”. Ok, I can see how the historical facts in the Bible can be provable. But how can the Spiritual things be proven?

I am bowing to your wisdom! You have no idea how relieving it is to hear (see?) someone say that. A lot of people see Atheists protesting someone's remarks and are all, "Look, the Atheists are attacking the Christians! You're anti-Christian!" They don't seem to realize that most Atheists don't go around verbally attacking Christians willy-nilly for thrills. There is usually a valid reason we are protesting something.

It seems like YOU are the one with some things to learn, actually, if you believe someone would treat you with respect when you all but called her an uneducated heathen.

But you haven't! All you have done is criticize other's beliefs and say that, "Well, I've done my research!"

Thank you.

I've seen it before. Where someone claims it's their faith being attacked when it's not. It's their actions. Often they want special treatment, and when it's not provided claim it's because of that faith.

If you smell Troll, perhaps you need deodorant!! I've not been a troll yet, I doubt anything has changed in the last day. There's only one new variable here. But you're "right". I must be the troll, jsut because you say so. Do you have the capacity to at least be honest?? Yes Yesterday you told me that your moniker has been the subject on many debates and everything that could be discussed about it has beed discussed - or something to that effect. No, that's not at all what I said. But since you're "right", let me quote:
I have no problems discussing it. It's been pretty much discussed into the ground during the last two years here, I'm not sure I can say anything I haven't already said.
The context of that statement being how I "came to be" an atheist. Perhaps to you discussion = debate. Perhaps to you "atheism" = my title. The religion topic usually comes on at the tail end of something else. If you'd done anything here other than troll around, you'd know that. A single search would tell you that. Atheism, in my time here, has never been a topic in and of itself. If my title had incited debates, that would certainly not be the case. And the discussions have never been a result of my title. Today you say that it "has not yet incited a debate" in 2-years. So were you wrong yesterday or today?? See above. But in order for you to be "right" I guess I have to be "wrong", so take your pick. Makes no difference to me.

Patronize you! Sweetheart, judging from your pic, I am old enough to be your father, and respect comes form receiving respect. You have a lot to learn. You're older than me. That does not make it aprpopriate for you to refer to me as "Darling".

You tell me I have all the facts wrong, but come up with all these lame reasons whay you don't want to give me the "real" facts! It appears that you just like to make comments and say nothing. As do you. You're "right" and you can't set "right" straight. And I never claimed to have "facts". I've claimed to have opinions and perspectives. I'll be one of the first to emphatically state that my beliefs are not fact. Regarding attacks! For some reason this thread seems to attract a large number of athiests, many of whom have jumped into the arena to take their shots at my posts. A large number... like 3. hey did not do this out of the blue. Again, you know that as well as I do. You did not innocently come here and innocently question. Your first post makes it clear you're here with an agenda. Why am I not surprised that you're now pleading innocence. You can't expect to attack (and by attack I mean insinuate it's an uneducated decision, as in "Atheist? Have you done your homework?" -- for starters) a belief and not have it defended by the people who hold it. Would you question or ridicule any other minority and be surprised if others of that minority chose to get involved? I have no problem with that and feel confident enough in what I believe to substanciate what I believe. Attack away!

Comments included in quotes for the sake of cohesion.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
