Liquids hurt, will it get better?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 days out and liquids hurt so bad going down. The puréed foods aren't a problem going down but how am I supposed to get in all of my liquids when it's this painful? Will this get better?

Have you tried changing the temp of the liquids?

Yup, I've tried hot, cold and room temp and they all seem to hurt going down. I hope this is only temporary.

My first weeks, I had a heck of a time getting my fluids in. Water was the worst! Cold, room temperature...it didn't matter. It was just not going down. I drank a lot of broth at first. Now that I am 6 weeks out, it is definitely better. Water is still uncomfortable but I can get it down now. It will get better with time. Good luck!

Thanks, maybe I'll try something other than water. Hopefully it gets better because I love water!

I'm also 2 days out and having a hard time with liquid. I'm at the hospital still, ready for discharge but before that happens they're giving me one more sublingual nausea pill. I've been nauseous all morning! This is awful. Also experiencing terrible gas pains. Anyone have tips on the gas relief other than walking?

I'm using a heating pad and it seems to be helping a little. Also extra strength chewable gasX. Spent the night sitting up in a chair because laying down was too painful.

My doctors said the gas had to go away on it's own but that's just torture. I will try everything you said! I also couldn't sleep last night because I was so uncomfortable laying down :( thank you!

The first week is tough to get liquids in. Every sip hurts. I likened it to having an elephant sitting on my chest. Yes it get better. Hang in there.

Im 2 days out and having a hard time drinking anything flavored.. So trying hard to get Protein in.. The gas x strips instantly make me burp which is such a relief! Try them! Also sitting up feels better then laying when I sip and burp.

Thanks for the advice, just tried one of my flavored Syntrax shakes and it's going down a lot easier then the water! It's not helping my thirst like water would but at least I'm getting in Protein and liquid. Thanks for the advice.

I can't add anything to what's been said already but wanted to pop in to reassure you it does get better.....early in the post op stage I found every day was different and things got a little bit better each day.....this has continued through all the stages......clear liquid, full liquids, pureed foods, soft foods, and now solid food......take your time, and know it will get better. Best wishes to all of our newly sleeved members!

I'm 2 days out as well. I can get in 1 ounce an hour just fine, but I'm supposed to be ramping up my intake by adding an ounce each hour. Anything over 1 1/2 ounces an hour and I get super nauseous. Hope this goes away soon. Kinda tired of being in the hospital.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
