Surgery tomorrow! Still wondering if I could do this myself!

So, I waited a long time for this day to come. Tomorrow is surgery day. I was super excited for a while, now I'm still somewhat excited, but also bummed because I feel like there is still a chance I could do this myself. I am mourning food already. I know I will follow everything to a tee as I have these past two weeks on pre-op diet, but still nervous I won't lose the weight. I'm nervous about long term effects since this surgery is so new. I have tried so many times to do this myself like most others on here, and couldn't. So nervous that if I didn't go through with it, I would be miserable and regret not doing it. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and was just diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I think of my perfectly good stomach, and wonder if cutting it out is the right thing to do. Has anyone else felt this way? :(

Belize! Thank you for your post on this thread! Very well written, and it truly hit home for me. I go next week, for the last 3 appts before I get to see the surgeon. Nerves and doubts have come and gone...but your last paragraph really nailed it.

Thank you again everyone:) And Belize, what you said is so true. So, tomorrow morning I'm going for it!:) I wish all of you the best as well!! :)

I felt exactly like this before my surgery 3/27. This is a tool that helps you speed up the process of something you could do your own. You will be happy when you are a few months out. It is an incredible journey. It will make you stronger Good luck. If you ever need anything I'm here

When I started looking into all of this I was motivated by my children and family. Selfishly I wanted to be there for the graduations and weddings. I didn't want to miss seeing them grow up. But this journey has taught me that this decision is for me and for them.

For me - I get to see grandchildren, attend my daughters wedding and spend time loving and laughing with them. I get to live a life i have only dared to dream. a life filled with self confidence, self love, and actualization of who i was intended to be. But I came to realize this is for them too. How could I leave them without a mother? How could they move beyond knowing I didn't do everything I could to stay with them.

I 've head you need to do this for yourself first. And that may be true but if it is my children aren't far behind.

Tough decisions often have glorious outcomes.

Stay strong and I hope it all went well.

Done with surgery, actually was done at 10:30 this morning:) When I woke up in the recovery room, I had some pain in only one of the five holes in my belly. I rated it a five. Got less with the pain meds. Other than that I was drowsy. Going through the day doing well. Sitting up the first time a little dizzy, walking a little nauseous Not too bad though. Gave my some Zofran, much better. Second time getting up and walking not as bad:) No gas pains yet. Feeling pretty good, much better than I thought I would. Tired though, so I'll try to post more tomorrow:)

Thank you again everyone!! Well day 2, Dr. wanted me to stay in the hospital one more night, only so I can walk around more and they wanted to make sure I could tolerate liquids before I go home, so I won't get dehydrated. Drinking 60ml water, lemonade, jello every hour, going down fine:) Walked some more and took a shower:) Ahhhhhhh, that felt good:) Still sore in the one spot, but not bad at all. Off PCA and on liquid pain meds. Hubby stayed with me all night:) and all day today:) I am very grateful all went well and for all of your kind comments. I wish you all the best as well!!
