Pictures of Tijuana Surgery Journey

Recommended Posts

The tummy pillow is super cute, but oh my goodness- the bathroom!! I would run for the hills or peed in a cup! I'm glad I have Clorox cleanup wipes on my packing list. Janitors shooting up? I'm not going there for surgery, but I'm getting nervous.

I think there's been a bit of an overreaction to the bathroom photo. Okay it's not the Hilton but its hardly disgusting either. The yellow in the corner isn't pee it's obviously just broken tiles and the adhesive underneath. I've seen broken tiles and ancient bath fixtures in hospitals here too. Third world maybe - disgusting nah.

I find the bathroom a little alarming. Sorry.

I concur. That needs an update. At least get the adhesive or whatever it is up and it obviously isn't urine (come on sheesh). We aren't that silly. Who's pee is that color?! Not mine that's for sure!

Anyway, the important thing is everything went well for you, you are safe and sound, and glad you are doing good after surgery.

It actually was soap, there was a leak in the holder. Some of the fixtures were missing covers, too, incidentally; and there was a ceiling leak in the hall that required a bucket for two days. And I am currently being transferred from Urgent Care in San Diego to the ER for dehydration, swelling and a very bad case of thrush. My doctors have been fastidious, checking in on me and urged me to go to the hospital last night. They are wonderful people ... But they are a country away.

OMG hope you feel better. I wonder what the thrush is from?

It's from the antibiotics.

It's from the antibiotics.

That sucks. Hope you feel better soon.

BTW, I saw one of your posts on another thread about signs warning people not to go across the border. Did you see any such signs when you went?

Nope. And I had zero issues at the border.

Sorry to hear you are having some complications. Why did you not get treated at the hospital in TJ? I thought it was a full service hospital? Do you think your ins will cover this? Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Oh my!! Looks real sanitary!!! I hear the nurses sell your pain meds to the janitors!

I had a friend that walked into a janitor shooting pain medicine in between his fingers!!!!

Be careful walking the halls girls!!

The bathrooms are old and dingy, sure, but I felt completely safe at this hospital and the nurses were never anything but kind and on top of everything.

That's a good question. How did you end up in SD?

It's ok, I am back at the hotel. Had a horrible case of thrush that swelled my throat, making it very hard to swallow. So of course I was dehydrated and had low blood sugar.

The swelling in my hands and limbs is still a bit of a mystery, hopefully it goes away on its own. Five days out I am 14 lbs heavier than the day of surgery and have been on all liquids for a week. when it comes off, I bet I drop two sizes!

I was already back in the states when things went downhill, so I couldn't go back to Tijuana. And yes, insurance will cover everything, thankfully.

I have no complaints at all about Dr. Garcia or Dra. Velasco. She was on the phone with my husband throughout the entire ordeal making sure all was well. She is wonderful, truly. Dr. Garcia also kept in touch, messaging me last night to go to a hospital because he realized I might not be drinking enough to stay hydrated.

The hospital might not be fancy, but the doctors give good care. Nurses seemed very caring too -- although I swear none looked older than 14 lol. I felt so old!

All in all, I am happy to be back in my hotel and continue to recover. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
