I am 52 years old. Earlier this year I went 5 months without getting my period, then I got it back a month before surgery. (this requiring me to take pregnancy tests before every procedure - and even delayed my surgery for 1/2 hour while they looked for my test results!)

At any rate, since we are dropping so much weight - and even my NUT says I am starving my body - wouldn't you think My period would stop? I got it one week post op and now again at six weeks.

Did any of you find that the sleeve altered your schedule? Really at my age and now with this new diet I expected to be done!

Hi Terry - I'm only 43, but wanted to answer your question. I'm 4 months out & have found that my cycle has changed a little. I've been having shorter periods with more time in between. Less cramping as well. Still pretty bad, but I'm hoping it will continue to get better. I track my cycle with an app called - what else - iPeriod. Yes, there really IS an app for everything! But it does let me know how long, how frequent, how regular, etc.

I had to reply because I was due for my first AF since my surgery on the 6th August and it is 5 days late. I've not had the usual spotting, weight gain or bloating before hand, so I'm thinking that because of the weight loss and surgery our hormones go all out of whack. I'm sure as time goes on it should even it self out.

It altered my cycle for 6 mons. It came 2 days after surgery which was 2 weeks early. It skipped 2 - 3 mons. Then it came 2 times in the same month, which happened twice. By month 6, it returned to normal.

Now that's cycle adjustment, lets talk about the hot flashes. Because of the hormonal changes caused by the weight loss, the hot flashes & night sweats started 3 months post op. While they still occur at almost 10 months out, they are manageable with Estroven I know at 47 i am at THE age, but doc sad this brought it along sooner.

Not complaining, just sharing.

Thanks....I was having hot flashes before. I think having lost some weight I am just not as prone to being "hot". Maybe the sleeve will help move this along!

Wow, there is an app for that. I put it on my phone just now, thank you for the information.

Hi Terry,

Yes the surgery really messes with your hormones. For 4 years previous to surgery I would maybe have 2-3 periods a year. After surgery had 2 within the first 6 weeks. Now nothing the last 6 months. I figure it is what it is. My tolerance to heat is MUCH BETTER now that I have some weight off also.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
