Date confirmed. Now what?

My info was submitted on Thursday. Aetna approved me the following Monday. Signed my consent forms yesterday and got my surgery date of September 16 today! I'm 5'6 and weigh 240 pounds. How much can I expect to lose within the first 12 weeks? I think I'll be an average to fast loser. That's usually the case. I've never had trouble losing weight but I always have trouble keeping it off. This will be the third time I lose 80+ pounds since 1999, and I hope it's the last!!

Good luck! I don't have an answer for your weight loss question, however I've seen lots of B&A photos and it looks like 30-40 pounds isn't out of the norm for the first 2-3 months. You are so lucky your insurance approved so quickly... I'm praying my insurance is that quick when my time comes:)

I've seen repeatedly that sleevers should expect to lose 30% of their weight in the first 3 months, on average.

I can tell you that I'm not quite at 3 months yet, but I've blown past the 30% part...so the statistic worked for me!

Good to know. Thanks for sharing that stat, and congrats on surpassing it!

I wonder if that stat is based off of how much weight a person has to lose... because if that were true, that would put me within 20 pounds of my goal weight within the first three months. Which would be freaking AMAZING!!!!!!

The stat is true for everyone, based on the information...30% of your excess weight, though, so be sure you're calculating that :).

For me, I had 142 pounds total to lose (although "goal" is so far away, who knows what I'll look/feel like when I'm close to that). With that excess weight amount, 30% would be 42.6 pounds. Not sure when I hit that, but my three month surgiversary will be September 6th - and I'm down 50.4 as of this morning. :)

Yup, totally didn't calculate the "excess" part.. that explains it lol.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
