He is not my doctor but it would be a shame not to. Let's face it , he is still a very good surgeon. Whatever the mistake was I'm prety sure it won't ahappen twice at lest not the same one.

I chose a surgeon (Dr Kelly) who had been drug through the mud on the boards regarding a patient death. It did not change my opinion of him because that type of complication could happen to anyone and 1 in 400 Bariatric surgeries end up very badly it's just a fact.

Now, if she was septic and died of an infection that is just downright malicious. Why didn't someone take her to an American hospital? Oh God bless her and her family. How sad

I suppose if this person had a heart issue, going to Mexico and lying about it is one thing... but what if she had an underlying heart issue that she was unaware of that caused the fatality? There is a good reason why the doctors in the US make you have these tests pre-op, aside from insurance clearance. Do the clinics require pre operative work at all? Ultrasound, echocardiogram, stress test, endoscopy, CT scan, anything? Just curious. I would think they would need at least some facts before going in, not just taking people's word for it.[/quote']

Im going to Mexico for surgery and I had a heart stent a year and a half ago. My US doctors cleared me after a heart ultrasound,stress test, stomach test-basically everything. Dr. Garcia is performing my surgery and there is a cardiology unit and doctor on standby for me at Mi Doctor in Tijuana. My US doc already told me what to do and I know I will have to walk around the clock for blood clots/circulation. My point is- be HONEST with everyone involved in your surgery.

I am not sure if you read through all the posts. Rox did not have heart issues. She had an undected/ misdiagnosed leak and was released. Doctor was told and was going out if town. She became septic and passed away. This could have been avoided

I read everything and won't elaborate on her death. I just made a statement for the part I quoted. I was specifically making a comment about testing protocol I experienced, NOT her death. I'm sorry to hear about her death and anyone else's complications from surgery. I almost died in March 2012 from my undetected blood clots in my heart. What I learned with time is that God is in control and doctors are only a tool that can assist us on earth. I had lots of anger...pure bitterness for every hospital, doctor, and nurse that "ignored" my pleas for five months as I endured blindness, brain swelling, delusions from excessive pain, and cardiac arrest, while in and out of ICU and frequent ER visits. The culprit of my condition was birth control pills a new doc had me try and he "misdiagnosed" my fast decline as well for various reasons. I was 30 years of age and experienced the worse part of my life ever and you know what--- NO amount of sorries or dollar amounts can erase the mistake and the tears and sheer horror of my family witnessing me die slowly. My 16 year old niece still cries when someone mentions my "5months" or the depression I faced afterwards. I was a blind vegetable,so she bathed me and gave me meds. The screams I heard as she saw me falling down repeatedly bc I was losing my vision at a fast pace were frightening. She said it wasn't fair...that life just wasn't fair to her nanny/godmother. I had to train myself to study the "event/mishappening" NOT the people involved. This is when my depression started to lift and I became stronger. The checks and calling names couldnt help me...only God!!!

As I type this message, please dont think I am making light of the situation with Rox. I am just sharing from my heart how mistakes happen and we never will know who will be in that 1%. I was in that 1% of birth control pill damage and I am not a smoker or drinker. Go figure!!! I sincerely pray for all of her family, friends, forum friends, and the rest of us who have not had this procedure yet. I love this forum and all of the stuff I read on here. Everyone's opinions and information are so valuable and just priceless. A few months before I joined this forum, I deactivated my fb and began connections with real people like me on this journey. Regardless of our diverse groups, we need each other for emotional/mental support, information, warnings, venting days, and SMILES!!! Have a terrific Thursday!!!

If you go to Mexico, right before surgery you should have a EKG done to check your hard and also X-rays of your chest and abdomen. Also the blod work is mandatory. If you don't get this treatment run for the hills !!!

And obviously, if you get an infection afterwards and your surgeon doesn't seem to care run for San Diego!

Honestly, that just makes me sad. She must have been so scared to be so sick in a strange country. Dear God please be with her family.

I went to Mx. First order of business at the hospital was chest xray. Next to my room for an ekg.....then bloodwork....all pre op. Very organized operation. ... Dr Rodriguez.....Hospital Angeles....Tijuana. BeLiteWeight.com first class all the way.....amazing coordinator. ......last night there.....leak test. All results were given to me to travel with....for my drs at home. I reccommend them highly.

Please don't misunderstand, I am not trying to be mean or rude, I just think it would be better not to post things like this if you don't have the details or the name of the surgeon. I am pre-sleeve and have made a confident choice in my surgeon but this kind statement can be upsetting to people who are undecided and nervous about going to Mexico.
