The duodenal switch ( the sleeve + a intestinal bypass) does make smelly gas and bathroom problems if the person eats a lot of fat. I have know a few people with that surgery. The sleeve itself does not cause the same issues. I have had mine since 6/26 and no problems. I asked my doc before I had my surgery because I did not want those problems. He said it was the bypass part not the sleeve that was the cause.

I've had some "bathroom" issues but it is a common side effect from my gallbladder removal after my sleeve. Maybe this person had their gallbladder out after the sleeve surgery (as is common)?

This is what I wanted to say, it sounds like that person had the DS. With that surgery the food comes out more or less intact and the smell is just... There are no words. I had a DS patient once in the nursing home and cleaning up those bowel movements was fairly memorable. He actually passed away as a result of the DS surgery because he refused to take his Vitamins and lived off of pizza and coke. He was the reason I decided never to get the DS, but thats just my personal story.

Ummmm.. Nooooooo. No problems whatsoever. In fact I feel completely normal now except I have to stop eating long before others do. That's it.

I did have foul smeeling "bathrooms" for about a week post op (make that week 2 since I didn't go for the first week). I think it was due to the fact that I hadn't gone for a whole week.

No problems since. Normal bm's

I really needed help to put these things to rest. I feel that I should check out each and every avenue. After all it will be my problem when it is all said and done. I am feeling that the sleeve is the one for me. But I run into or hear someone personal story and it scare the crap out of me.(forgive the phrase)

I have my first clinic appt on 8/28 and I feel that I should be sure which procedure I want and I am scared that I won't make the right decision for me or my body. Thanks guys.

I'm 4 weeks out, I love my sleeve. I haven't had any diarrhea problems til today but I am pretty sure it was self induced. I was traveling and forgot to eat before I left. I stopped at Arbys and got mozzarella sticks- breaded and greasy, only ate one and through out the rest. Junk in, junk out. I set a reminder to tell me to eat, I'm never hungry. I wish I had made the decision earlier.

I was looking at the BJs Bariatrics site and saw this:

http://www.bjsbariatrics.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bjb&Product_Code=prtDevRom100TabChewable&Category_Code=new

And I was hoping this wasn't associated with the sleeve

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
