10 Hours Post-Op! 2 Quick Questions...

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery around 1145 this morning! So excited but am not able to pee. They just had to do this thing to empty my bladder (literally 850 cc in there LOL). Did anyone else have this problem? Also, it may sound strange that I'm concerned about this, but I'm actually not having trouble getting liquids down. I feel like every post I read mentioned issues with liquids. Was anyone else OK with liquid requirements?

Thank you all!

Yes, I had no problems with liquids either...and it continued with food...no troubles whatsoever. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones!

I had surgery Saturday and I am drinking just like before surgery. I am on full liquids right now and I also hsve not had any problems with any of that.

I hope it continues on with everything.

Congratulations on your surgery! I don't know for sure, but in my past experience with anesthesia, it takes some time for your bladder to "wake up," so that may be why they had to do your peein' for ya! :)

Sounds like you're doing great; glad to hear it!

Just read on another thread....your tummy might be "numb" for a while so you have to be aware of what you consume. I'll be where you are this time next week....yay!!! You sound like you are doing great!!!

I didn't have any problems with drinking in the hospital and still haven't had any....9 days post op. As for the peeing, did you have a catheter at first? I did and the nurse told me they sometimes make your bladder "lazy", so she said if I didn't pee pretty quickly after it was out, to make sure I went and sat on the toilet and tried every time I walked. Fortunately, I didn't have any problems peeing :)

Sure thing! :) I was made to pee at the hospital but barely anything came out. I'm willing to bet you just need some more time to come off of the anesthesia! You'll be just fine! :)

I had the same problem at the hospital. They attributed it to one of the two pain meds they were giving me in my IV (don't know which). They stopped that med, since I wasn't having any pain and it took until morning, but I was finally able to pee on my own. Good thing because they weren't going to let me go home if I couldn't pee.

Now I drink and pee, drink and pee, drink and pee . . . oh, you get the idea. That's how I know I am losing weight -- I pee it all out.

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

Thank you all![/quote']

The narcotic pain medication can cause urinary retention.

Thank you all for the quick replies! Bladder started working in the middle of the night (woohoo!). Very sore today, so I figured all the good stuff wore off by now!

Happy Friday everyone!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
