Did anyone feel like they were going to die?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a mini nervous breakdown. Like cry my eyes out and write letters to my husband and kids. I'm so freaking terrified of surgery and feel almost convinced that I will be the 1% mortality. I also feel like I cannot continue to live this way. Did anyone else feel like this or am I having some sort of premonition?

I felt this way. Recorded videos on my phone for my family.

I had sleepless nights. Became moody and weepy. Short tempered due to stress.

I was worried it was a premonition too. I was sleeved in Mexico.

Oh good. Maybe I'm not completely nuts.

You're not nuts. I felt the same way... It's a serious surgery, but write your letters, say a prayer and make peace with it before hand. You will do great!

As I was getting prepped by the nurse for surgery- I started thinking these thoughts and having a mini mental breakdown in my mind. Especially when the nurse asked if I had a living will. I calmly answered "no, am i supposed to?" while thinking in my head "LIVING WILL?! WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME THIS NOW?!! THIS MUST BE A SIGN. OMG WHY AM I DOING THIS??!"

Ten minutes later I was on the operating table-super calm and oddly excited and before I knew it I was in recovery and everything was fine.

You'll do great!

I FEEL THE SAME WAY! I think most of us do as the surgery nears. I think it is totally normal and I do NOT think it is a premonition! (That said, I've melted down many times and updated my will as well). Try to see the humor in being so high drama. Or I should say I am trying to see the humor in ME being so high drama!

You're not crazy - you have a brain and are thinking ahead. There are risks and you're going through the process of determining which ones you're prepared to take. Only you can decide that. More people should do this.

No one said being intelligent was easy!

I was not worried at all..Unlike all of you..I figured it would be a snap..I had surgeries before and they were no big deal.....

Well was I wrong.....i spent 5 months in the hospital due to complications with the surgery...MAYBE if I had like you I would not have been that .001 % that everything goes wrong.....

Your not alone I got so bad that before my surgery I couldnt vision leaving my 6 year old son sleeping in bed or i would ball my eyes out. So the day of the surgery at 300am I kissed my son good bye I was dying I couldnt control the tears. I got into the cab going to my sisters house because she was taking me to hospital. welI I took this as a sign the driver was going 65 miles an hour in a 25 mile zone it was the cab ride from hell but I survived. So I took it as a sign if I was supposed to die on june 18 that cabbie would have wrapped us around a pole. LOL I can laugh about it now but it scared me straight I lost my fear after that, and new I was going to see my son grow up.

I keep telling myself that if I'm meant to die that day I will, whether I'm lying in the OR or driving down the street or doing nothing and my heart stops. It's not helping lol

You are not crazy at all! I cried the entire day of my surgery- pre op. l cried when the nurse put in the iv... I cried in the holding room when they were talking to me about anesthesia ..... I cried in the operating room while waiting on my surgeon. EVERYONE was very kind and understood that I was terrified. Just remember why you are doing this and the consequences if you don't.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
