Re: Worried over Excess Skin.....

Recommended Posts

I think that's true. I dont think I'll have a washboard stomach by any means, but I dont think I'll need a Tummy Tuck. My stomach is not getting looser or flabbier as I lose and I've never had an apron. I'll probably have the normal post motherhood poochie bit at th bottom of my stomach and I"m fine with that, to me that's no worse than a huge scar from hip to hip.

Boobs are another matter entirely though. I'm blown away that my boobs just arent shrinking! They look terrible. Fine clothed, although the size difference between lefty and righty has become more noticeable and can now be seen when I'm clothed if you're looking for it. I bought new bras yesterday and have gone down several back sizes only to discover I had to size up to an E cup - OMG. They're not huuuuuge because I"m tall and large framed but boy oh boy at an E I'll be able to turn on the "I've got backaches and cant play sport" story and have a "medically necessary" reduction and lift which I'm now sure I'm going to do.

So again, its just your luck. If you were big breasted before WLS chances are you'll have a bit of a disaster happening on your chest no matter what your age. If you carried a lot of weight on your stomach and had a bit of a hanging apron, that's not going to magically go away either.

Its depressing, sigh.

Hi Laurie, sounds like your insurance is almost exactly like mine, with their requirements. They wanted me to have had meetings with nutrtionists, and physician approved exercise programs. The fact he had councelled me concerning my weight and the morbidities it was causing...high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. was all wonderful....but not enough. Nothing I had was enough, after my 2nd denial, we went to Mexico and went self pay. I wish you much luck and if there is any help I had to offer it would be all yours, but you have learned the documentation importance. So along that line, every time I now go to my Dr. I don't care if it is for a stuffy nose, I intend to complain about heat rash or some skin issue under my belly fat, and beneath my breasts, and if he does not seem to be writing it down in my chart, I will go so far as to ASK it to be documented that I requested help for it. I just got my band this week, and am only down 10 pounds with the pre-op diet and all, but I am prepping for the day the PS is necessary, and hoping this talking it up now helps!

I lived....and learned....gonna try it this way now!!! Proactive vs. reactive to the insurance nonsense!!!

Kat

Mine too grrr. Last time I lost significant weight was before I had kids and I went down to a C cup. This time, no way. They're staying big. Its probably got to do with having fed 3 babies.

Hi all, I just had a total face lift, upper and lower eyes done. I am 55, and with the weight I have lost, I could really see the old face sagging. I am still very sore, but hopefully in a few weeks, I will see a huge differnce. Good luick to all.

Hi,

I have a regimine I do every day. I have no idea if it will help to prevent hanging skin or not, but I sure hope so!

1. Apply Jergens Skin Firming lotion (designed specifically for "after pregancy and weight loss" according to the bottle) every morning. I also apply coconut oil most evenings.

2. Take a multi-Vitamin and mineral tablet

3. Drink at least 64 ounces of Water every day

4. Exercise five times a week

5. Take Flax oil (I'm bad about this but do try to take it as often as possible to moisturize my skin from the inside out)

So, as I said I have no clue if any of this will help but I sure hope it does!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
