Conjugated Linoleic Acid or known as Tonalin

I may get back with you on the dosage - as I believe the one i ordered said 1/2 - 1 tablespoon (or maybe even a teaspoon) a day. Not sure what that equates to yet in mg or whatever! But I promise to keep you posted - I'm so excited to try this. Started spending time on lowcarbfriends.com and am going to combine with low carb (again) - i've always felt I've been insulin resistant, etc. Good luck to all us pigs - guinea that is - lol

I bought a bottle of the liquid CLA, and once it arrived and I had read the label, I decided against taking it. I am a nursing mom of a 5 month old exclusively breastfed infant, and the stuff on the label about fat absorption worried me. I did some research, and I found this study http://matportalen.no/Saker/1074243531.86 that warns nursing moms against taking CLA. I've got a full bottle of this stuff, and I only opened it to see what it smelled like. If anyone wants it, I'll sell it to you for $10 (less than half of my cost) plus shipping. Email me at kim@naturalfamilyboutique.com if you're interested.

I should have known better! The posts had me really excited to try this stuff. I should have done my research first. :cry

Kimster - sorry about your discovery after the purchase of CLA. I was not aware of that study and understand how you would be advised not to take it. I personally have quite a bit of it right now. Thanks for the heads up re: the study - I looked at it and it made sense for pregnant and nursing moms to avoid it. I am having great success with it however and hope that others will too. Its so nice not to have those cravings that drive me crazy! Good luck.

Thanks for the sympathy :)

It was my bad. I know better and should have done the research ahead of time. I'm a retired LLL Leader, and through my work I have found that only rarely is a drug truly contraindicated during lactation. It is usually chemotherapy drugs or something of that sort, and most other things are perfectly OK while nursing. Go figure! Something seemingly harmless could be a no-no!

Hi Kim - again, I am so sorry about your discovery. If you would like, I will send you the amount you paid for it but you don't need to mail the pills to me. I see you have 6 kids - whew! You deserve a medal for that and working a home-based business too. Also, just to clarify for everyone out there - CLA is not a drug but a nutritional supplement - its ingredients found in fish oils, various nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. I was blown away however, by the study that indicated it has an effect on the fat in breast milk - definitely a big concern! :speechles

Hey Neenagh! Glad to hear you are losing. I find that if I consistently take it I reduce my cravings with it. I am starting my 2 wks of Opti-fast tomorrow. I have not gained any weight yet - so keep your fingers crossed for me.:nervous

So I read this thread two days ago and literally dashed out of my house to go buy some. My bf had quite the puzzled look on his face!

I am in desperate need of help! I gained over the holidays and have been in a self induced stall for six months anyway. I want the last 35 lbs OFF and to hit goal.

So I've been taking this for two days and I don't know if it's the CLA or just the mental suggestion...but it seems to have helped with hunger and cravings. I have been able for two days now to eat "right" and way lower calories than in a long time without being lightheaded.

So far so good. I wonder how long the effects will last. I need some help for several months...not just a few days, you know?

Anyhow, thanks to pricilla!!

This does sound interesting. I just ordered some of the liquid CLA from affordablesupplements.com. A bit pricey, but I really wanted to try the liquid. Will keep you posted.

I thought i had ordered the liquid but got the big black pills (capsules) and was a bit nervous about swallowing one but so far so good - even in the morning. Just started so honestly nothing huge is happening yet but i will report back in a week or so. I'm taking three capsules a day with meals and each capsule is 2.22 grams. It's my period week so if they can cut my cravings this week, I'll be impressed....mary

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
