I'm 3 months post op. Have lost avg 12lbs month and down from 246-206.... And down 4 sizes. I feel great, doing well with diet and joined a gym and work out 3 times a week. The problem I'm having is mood swings. They are constant! I was told by family I'm bipolar. I'm not bipolar but I have these crazy highs and lows. Has anyone else experienced these constant and frequent mood swings?? Any suggestions??? I take birth control so on hormones. Help!! :)

Well there are hormones stored in your fat cells so when they deplete, the hormones are released in large quantities. That may be a big part of it!

Could be so many things. Sorry, but you should probably be assessed by a professional. People on the boards can offer hypothesis' but that's all. Good luck and take care. :)

Congrats on your loss! I haven't experienced this as I am 9 days out, but I read a ton of books prior to choosing WLS. I have read that fat cells, store estrogen and as they deflate they can set you on a hormone roller coaster as they release the hormones into your system. I'm sorry I can't remember exactly which books mentioned this!

You know, de nial is not just a river in Egypt. :-P Seriously though, I guess I was lucky my 1st month. Only had one mood... I hated the world!

Ok you guys are scaring me now:(

I have a lot of weight to loss, so lots of stored hormones to release. Yikes! Well at least I now have a scientific explanation for my family for when I am being a b*>?h.

Usually I am all kind and caring, but right now I feel a big f-you to most people.

Hope I don't flip out:)

Well, this to shall pass.

Many blessings

Michelle

Do you think maybe the mood swings are because you are no longer pushing down emotions with food? That's been my issue. Learning to deal with life without my drug of choice -- food -- can be hazardous!

Mood swings and depression could also be a side effect of some of the medications. Reglan is used to help with nausea; and depression and anxiety attacks are a side effect of this medication! Check the labels on your medication and ask for a different med or seek a therapist to help you cope in a more healthy way! I have found listening to meditation music when stressed to be relaxing and yoga is also helpful. A good workout is also helpful!

The other day I flipped out on a lady who cut me in line. Almost turned into a shove match! Sad part is I had my daughter and she had hers! I got home and cried my eyes out! I asked the forum about emotions and yup got some responses as well.....a lot of people are going through it. I am going to make a conscious and back down when I feel myself getting angry or super emotional. Give myself a time out and try to relax. I have been trying to be more active. Hopefully when my energy kicks in I can start releasing some of those hormonal emotions with exercise :)

I'm not on denial. I'm an RN And have been diagnosed with clinical depression many years ago. I see a therapist and I'm not bipolar. I go to the gym and work out the negative energy. I know these are forums and I'm not asking for professional help. I was just hoping that at least on this forum others could relate or give suggestions but I'm starting to get the feeling if I ask I get snarky comments and it's unecessary. We are here for reasons and those that were helpful thank you. Those who are snarky well maybe I'm not the only one with an issue. Just sayin...be helpful not hateful.

No one made snarky comments? One person made an obvious joke and lots of people related plausible hypothesis. I think all these people answered you with kindness in their hearts. Many people expressed similar feelings which is usually helpful in not feeling so alone or abnormal. What is it exactly that you are looking for?

I think most of us went through mood swings early on. There are a lot of changes in your body which destabilizes some of our hormones. Remember you're going to be losing a lot of weight in a short period of time. Hang in there it gets better. Good luck to you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
