How did you survive giving up caffeine and sugar?

I used to be a big coke drinker, almost a 2 liter per day. Now I am down to only one 20 bottle when I get a migraine. I am trying to ditch my 12 oz coffee that I have the three days week I work at 5 am and it is killing me. I teach internet classes and I am falling asleep during my classes. I also used to eat candy and other sweets(ice cream, cookies) very regularly, now none at all.

I am in the process of getting all my clearances for surgery and I have lost 8 pounds in about 2 weeks. I am happy about that but I cannot sleep while at work. I just don't know hat to do!!

  • I suffer from migraines, between 8 and 12 per month, so coming off caffiene was alarming. I am not a 'coke' girl, but coffee is my drug of choice! We went and bought a little 4 cup coffee pot, so we'

i guess i'm not wired for sweets as much as others. As long as I don't have a single bite, i won't crave it. Now go get yourself an army if you intend to separate me from my caffeine!

To be honest I started drinking a lot of teh sugar free low calorie drinks liek powerade, and others and my caffeine cravings were gone about the 3rd or 4th day in my pre op diet. I had a sugar free red bull habit ,and diet dr pepper, along with other caffeine habit. With time the cravings faded away.

The one I worry about is sugar. I freely admit I was addicted to sugar. I feel like if I let myself have any, I'll be right back to where I started. I try to think of it as addicts do. It's that first cigarette or first drink that puts you right back to where you started. I'm hoping the cold turkey during pre and post op will wean me off it, otherwise I fear my surgery will be undermined. I really cannot go through all this and end up eating cake afterwards.

I hope to be one of the lucky ones that doesn't like the taste of sugar after surgery.

I used to be so addicated to sugar every Sunday I used to eat donuts on top of donuts and a steak and egg bagel from Mickey D's. I used to think I was living the good life,lol.....

Your ticker says surgery is today. Good luck with everything!
