I was sleeved 7/11 and I'm down 15 lbs that's it :( i feel like I'm behind! I'm still having trouble drinking fluids I've had no Protein since I can't get the Protein Drink down. I have really bad spasms and cramping in my stomach. I hope to feel better soon! This is supposed to be a happy journey and so far it sucks!

Hi guys, just my two cents for July VSGers who are concerned there're not loosing weight to their satisfaction or fast enough, have more patience. Easier said than done, I know but trust me...you're fine. It took a long time to put the excessive weigh on, you need ample time to take it off. Were in a weght-loss marathon, not a 100 meter dash. Keep focused and positive. Sometimes you have forget the scale. A better indicator that your moving in the right direction could be how well your clothes fit or increased mobility.

I was sleeved on7/5. I am down about 21 lbs. including my week liq diet before surgery. I am still having some pain and take pain medication once in while. I have had some troubles with loose stools - so, trying almond milk in my Protein Shakes now. I am on pureed food and doing pretty well with it right now. My biggest troubles are sleeping and I still get kind of gasy.

I was sleeved on July 2nd...down 27 since surgery. Feeling pretty good physically. I do get this sharp pain on my left side. It comes and goes. Probably gas.... I could give exxon and shell a run for there money with the gas I produce. I feel gross if I am not belching, I am farting. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. Just started full liquids on Thursday for the next two weeks, then on to mushies. Getting all my Protein in. Mix GNC's whey protein unflavored into yogurt, Soups and pudding. Emotionally, today was a bad day. I feel disgusting because of all the gas and the dreaded bad breath you get. I just got married March 17 so I am still a newly wed, but my husband doesn't want to be intimate. He is cautious even cuddling. Afraid he is going to hurt me. No one in his family has ever had surgery so seeing me in the hospital and the pain for the first week freaked him out. I just feel isolated. He doesn't want to eat around me so he hides in his office or goes out. His heart is in the right place but it makes me feel like a leper. I know this will all get better but it hit home today and has been rough. I live in New Orleans and last week my sister was in town with my niece from Ohio and all they wanted to do was go eat and swim. I felt so strange just sitting there with my Water and watching the eat and enjoy everything. I wasn't cleared to swim until the day after they left. I felt like I missed out. I know this is all temporary and that everything will get better. Just needed to vent. My family is supportive but has no idea what this is really like. Weight loss surgery is deffinetly not the easy way out I used to think it was.

I feel your pain Indium47!! My heart also goes out to you - this must be very hard for you being newly married. But, this is going to be the best test for your husband. Make sure you tell him what you need at this time. He won't be able to figure it out himself - but, he will want to help. Since, our hormones are all over the map during this time, it is hard enough for us to figure out what we need from those we love. I am dealing with things with my grown daughter - she just doesn't get the serious situation that this surgery has us going through. I truly think she thinks this is the easy way out - and thinks I was the weak one to need to do it to lose weight. She has no idea that this is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.

I understand about feeling isolated at times. My husband doesn't mind eating in front of me, he is a stick and can eat anything he wants and not gain a pound (butthead), so I am lucky there. My mom didn't want to eat in front of me and no matter how much I told her that it was ok, she still said she felt bad. It honestly didn't bother me. I have been dealing with people not understanding the limitations of my physical ability, right now. I was sleeved on July 2nd (forgot that in the beginning). I am pretty OCD about my house being clean and was lucky to be able to be on disability leave for a month, but I have been doing more than I should and I feel like it is expected at this point. My husband has been good about telling me to take breaks and rest, thank goodness. I have been very vocal about my surgery on my FB page. I feel like a lot of people I know have hidden that they had the surgery because of the stigma of it being "the easy way out". I feel like I can educate people on the fact that it is SO NOT the easy way out and about the entire life change we have to make. It has helped my confidence and I have so much support. I figure that if they have a negative opinion they should keep it to themselves, as this is a personal choice and in my case, there were many health problems I had that are gone after the surgery. I feel blessed to have this opportunity. Most people in my family don't understand this, but I luckily have a sister that had the surgery in March and has lost over 70 pounds. It is nice to have her to talk to and I have several other friends that have had the surgery also and being able to discuss all the things about post op, is really nice. I love this site, I have found many answers here and am grateful for that! I was down 18 pounds at my post op apt and don't have a scale right now (ordered a digital one) but I am keeping track in inches as well. I have lost 11 inches overall since the post op visit and that is a great feeling!

I was sleeved on July 16th. I started at 298. I was down to 281. However, since I began my purée diet, I am up to 285. I'm getting concerned. I thought I was supposed to be losing weight!! I've been somewhat constipated. It probably wouldn't hurt for me to call my dietician on this. How often should I be checking my weight? Is everyday too much?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
