OMG! Ovarian Cyst too?

Recommended Posts

I'm waiting to hear back from ins. to approve me for July 31. Meanwhile after careful review of an MRI I had done in January of an ovarian cyst on my left side my surgeon suggests I have it removed the same day I get sleeved. He went so far as to consult a colleague who's an oncology gynecologist. The two of them want me to consider both procedures on the same day because its the size of a tennis ball and there's a small chance it can go from benign to malignant. The thing is I've been a cool cucumber about getting sleeved and now I'm like...oh no! What does this mean for recovery time, pain, and even more possibility of complications? Does anyone have a similar situation or have gone through this already or something like it?

I have had three surgeries to remove ovarian cysts. The last time I had one on each side one was softball size and one was orange size. It was so painful. The surgery was so helpful for me. I had da vinci surgery. It is a good idea to do all at once then just one recovery! Take care.

I almost had a clearing out of my endometriosis concurrently with my sleeve, only my gynecologist did not have privileges at the hospital where I was being sleeved. That would definitely have caused a longer recovery period but would have been worth avoiding two rounds of anesthesia. I am just crossing my fingers now that I stay pain free from the endo for a while or maybe even get some relief from it along with other pain that has lessened since being sleeved. In your position I would do both. Just an opinion from the peanut gallery! Best of luck with your decision~ :)

I met with the surgeon today who will remove my left ovary right after getting sleeved. It's definitely happening. I did my research and I'm ok about it. Although I forgot to ask him if he can do a tubal ligation on the right ovary. I will have to call his office on Monday because I don't want anymore kids. I already have 2, that's enough for me especially since I'm turning 40 in 2 weeks.

I'm trying to get approved for WLS. I have a cyst on both ovaries. I'm 34 and don't want any more children, maybe I should have them removed the same day.

I'm trying to get approved for WLS. I have a cyst on both ovaries. I'm 34 and don't want any more children, maybe I should have them removed the same day.

Look into it, talk to your surgeon and do your research. I've been monitoring my ovary since 2007, when I had a c- section and my obgyn discovered it. She actually wanted to remove it right there and then but the anesthesiologist argued that I could not make a last minute decision while under anesthesia. The obgyn got pissed at her and said "to put the patient under anesthesia again is a big risk because of her weight." So they closed me up and left it in. I changed my obgyn and like I said I've been monitoring. Had an MRI done in January to rule out fibroids and my sleeve surgeon thoroughly reveiwed my med chart and figured since I'm going under to get sleeved might as well take the ovary out. So see what your options are.

Hello, I have a large ovarian cyst and I am looking to get the sleeve surgery. I have had trouble finding anyone that will do both at the same time, I don't want to have two surgeries.

Does anyone have any suggestions of surgeons? I Live in Southern California, but willing to travel if needed.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
