Band to Sleeve; Weight Gain?

Recommended Posts

After two failed lap bands, I am scheduled to have the band removed and revised to a sleeve.

Despite my best efforts, my surgeon insists that I have the band removed, allow 3 months 'rest' time for my stomach then have the sleeve procedure.

Has anyone had the same experience and how did you manage/control your weight over that time? I'm terrified I will gain back majority, if not all of the 60lbs I've lost this far in that 3 months.

Any story's or tips from fellow banders/ex banders/current sleevers would be appreciated!

I had to do the 3 month wait. I hoped to use that time to lose weight, but I only lost a few pounds. It was hard, but I think it was a good idea. I had my original band in 2005 and had it repositioned on 2008. I had my band removed in March of this year. My doc said it took a long time to remove it because I had so much scar tissue. Then 3 months later I went in for my sleeve and he found a big hernia and lots more scar tissue that had been hidden. That operation was 4 1/2 hours. In hindsight, I am so glad we did it this way. Who knows how long I would have been under if we did it in one step. I have healed slowly. It took 4 weeks before I started to feel OK. I'm 6 weeks out now and am not completely back to normal. I'm older - 55 and I'm sure that made a difference. BUT, good luck. The sleeve is wonderful!Kim

I had my band removed and waited a year to get the sleeve. In that year I gained 50 of the 80 pounds I had lost with the sleeve.

weight gain is also a concern of mine after ridding the band.

i had a bad slip and it was completely unfilled in january and i had it taken out in april then revised on july 1st. I gained 28lbs in that time. but to be honest i didn't eat that well. it was nice to be able to eat lol so i enjoyed it because i knew i was having surgery soon. and since july 1st im down 22lbs.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
