Nausea has gone away' date=' just the gas pains that come every few mins. They hurt like hell!! food is now a turn off, can't really eat anything. I'm afraid im already dehydrated...[/quote']

Get some broth in and hot tea is a relief for your new tummy. I can't tolerate cold. Also when drinking/ sipping exhale before you take in fluids because typically when we drink we usually inhale, we have to relearn how to eat but in a different way.

Good tip! I'm going to try that.

I made it the surgery just fine. No nausea' date=' but I feel ya on the gas pains. The are coming and going. They told me walking helps. I just went for one down the hallway. I know I can get through this. Morophine is my friend. I hope to go home tomorrow.[/quote']

Yes, walking has become my best friend. However I've been admitted to a hospital for two days bc with my complaints it signaled a possibly pulmonary embolism. But it was all negative. Don't forget make sure you sit up straight when consuming any types of food to elongate your abdomen so the gas doesn't get trapped and hurt. Make sure to use a spirometer, if you didn't get one practice every hour of inhaling and get your lungs inflated the best you can. And walk, walk, walk!!!

Welp I woke up this morning and feel pretty normal! No gas pains at all today so far woohooo! I didn't take any pain meds all day yesterday until I went to bed and did a lot of laps around my yard. I still have pain at the big incision site where he pulled my stomach through. I'm hoping to stay this way, since I have to go back to work tomorrow. I still don't have my energy back. Yesterday just walking upstairs to my bedroom to take a shower wore me out (had to sit down and take a break before even getting in the shower). Hope everyone else is doing great!

That is a good tip. I tried it, reduced the belching.

Update: Lory yes the walking does help! Since I have been up, I've been walking, no gas pains yet and its 1:34pm my time. I feel much better, no need for pain meds as of yet...I figure if I stay in one spot for to long, that will cause gas to build up. Today I started full liquids...I was suppose to start tomorrow, but I ran out of the plain Protein Powder and I didn't want to miss a day without Protein. I'm tolerating it very well, not hungry at all. Couldn't stay off the scale, loss a few pounds since surgery, wondering if the drain is helping with that. Fluids are still comming out the drain, I empty about 1.2 oz every 6-8 hrs. I'm glad this stuff is comming out.....wonder where it woulda went if I didn't have the drain? I hope all is well, and remember, walk, walk, walk! :)

Slurpee_girl I hope all went well' date=' and please do not come back in a week and say OMG I am not losing 50 pounds per day... Follow the Dr's orders.... you will do fine, STAY off the scale..... go by your clothes...... remember you will GAIN.... before you start to lose, hollar at me if I can help... Hope you got some MOM before surgery, if not send someone for it.....MOM is milk of mag. you WILL need it after about 2.5 weeks I PROMISE YOU! :) Been there, SUFFERED THAT![/quote']

Thanks. Surgery went well. No unexpected troubles with the sleeve part but I had a hernia repaired and since waking up from surgery I've had some severe reflux issues....felt like a heart attack coming out of surgery. Still a significant issue and something I need to figure out. No scales for me until I see the doctor Friday, now, just need to figure out how to get all the liquids and Protein down. I hope everyone is doing well!

Hello fellow September sleepers. I am two weeks out and started soft foods today. This morning I had a poached egg and couldn't finish it. Also had a few tiny bites of cottage cheese then full. I'm so surprised at what a tiny amount I can eat. I know it will change but wonder how a person could possibly get their Protein and enough calories to survive! I had a shake for dinner for the protein. Good news is I've lost 14 pounds! It's been great having different foods though.

I was September 17th. After the first week of nearly being put in ICU for dehydration and battling a UTI I'm starting to feel normal again. I've had a battle keeping down Protein but today a friend that had the sleeve done at the being of the year suggested adding 1tbs to 2 tbs of PB2 powder to my Protein Shakes. Needless to say...I kept it down and boy did it feel wonderful. I was getting tired of Popsicles.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
