Hi! I'm in Charlotte as well. Who's performing your surgery?

Dr Kuwada. I feel like I am losing my mind. I can't seem to concentrate and I flit from one thing to another. I am sure it is just because I am nervous about the big change this will be in my life. I went through the same thing when I got married 21 years ago. Lol

My 2-week liquid diet countdown is about to begin. In a way this is a fair test of my commitment to VSG and more importantly the post-surgery dieting necessary to achieve the weight loss. It is time to get serious' date=' establish my commitment, and get a do-over dealing with my obesity.

Yes, obesity, I have hidden from admitting my situation, much like an alcoholic denies being a drunk, I am a foodaholic which in many ways is worse. I am tired of looking in the mirror and "remembering" my lighter days.

It is too easy to say that my weight problem began when I quit smoking; but, facts are - I simply enjoy eating and when my taste buds recovered - my oh my - did things taste better and we all know what happened next.

My issue is more than just losing the weight (100 lbs.), its about dropping the associated health risks, diabetes, high blood pressure, more drugs than I care to list, cholesterol, and a family history of heart attacks.

I bought an assortment of Protein Drinks, Soups and Vitamins to start a dietary journey to a lighter me. Having read what so many others have posted in their topics, I believe that I too can show the same determination and will be reading and posting often. Have a great week, and thanks for being out there and sharing your successes.[/quote']

This sounds like I could have written it I had to look to make sure it wasn't me. No more hiding, no more denial, no more blaming others !

Cool...Dr. Gersin is performing mine. I'm the same way. I just got my date today and it was extremely difficult for me to focus at work today. Tell me again, which day is your surgery scheduled for?

Hey! I am scheduled for Sept. 10th with Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. I am considering going by myself bc I really want to keep this private. I will be there Sept. 9-14th. I might be able to play with my dates. We need to keep in touch if you don't mind.

I'm also going by myself to Mexico. I will be at the Marriott early on the 11th as I only could get an early morning flight. I would love to meet up with people while I'm there.

Tonight is my "last supper" for a while since tomorrow dawns a new dieting day. Liquids' date=' other liquids, and still more liquids! Did I mention that chocolate is my favorite drink, candy, and Friendly's chocolate fribbles rule! At least I won't be thirsty and I am psyched to face being hungry until I get my appetite in line with my mind.

My pre-op lab work, X-Ray, Nutritionist and Doctor appointments are August 29th (talk about the last minute) and VAG is scheduled for September 3 at the Bayshore Medical Center. Two days in the hospital, 5 days recovery at home and then doctor's followup appointment.

I have a high school reunion coming up on Columbus Day Weekend. The reunion is at a great restaurant with dining, drinking, and dancing - the potential for an embarrasing "blowout" is off the chart.

Being on a liquid diet and still healing in the face of a great menu, open bar, and dancing is way too tempting. Worse yet is the following morning's Breakfast buffet, OMG, I am (was) a lover of all things breakfast including mimosas.

Yup, time to scratch attending the reunion and focus on my bigger picture. Tomorrow I find the correct temperatures for chocolate Protein drinking, clear protein chicken Soup, and learn to drink 64 oz. of Water like a fish.[/quote']

Is your surgery at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena?

Is your surgery at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena?

I only wish, no my surgery will be performed by a team of doctors with Monmouth Bariatrics at Meridian's Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel New Jersey - aka the Garden State or Soprano Land.

Having lived in So.CA, and frequented Pasadena, I envy your choice of hospitals. Perhaps we can compare notes on the outcomes of our respective "Bayshore" experiences. Have a great day and best wishes with your upcoming surgery.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
