Yea I passed psych. Ktodd how did you do??

I think it went great! Mine was not what I expected, more of a life history & not a lot about food or the surgery at all... Hopefully it's accepted by the surgeon & I'm not delayed!

I'm on the surgery schedule for Sept 9th too, I'm not as nervous as I was, I have a dear friend that's been talking me through the process because she was sleeved in February. She's down 70lbs since Feb, that's with no exercise strictly diet change. She's been telling me exactly what to expect, and what I need to intake to stay hydrated and energized. Also informed me of any worse case scenarios like hers, she tested positive for the H-pyloren and was kept in the hospital another night because she couldn't get her liquids down. She gave me her favorite Protein Drinks to try and premeasured cups for liquids and soft foods. I'm very glad to be out of work for 3 weeks to really invest in healing and closely following doctors orders post op.

Here's to 9/9/13! We're ready!

Strange how different they can be. I'm nervous they will delay me I have a hernia and ulcers. I'm waiting to hear back from the surgeon to see what that will mean. My meds are 8 weeks but the surgery is in 5 :(

Has anyone started incorporating Protein Shakes in their diet in prep for post surgery? I have started but I feel so hungry!! I feel my stomach is the size of a gallon of milk lol ::cue the dramatics::and that little shake just isn't doing me justice - I am hanging in there tho' date=' but was wondering if it was just me.....[/quote']

I don't know what drinks ur drinking but it's mind over matter we all know that. Your probably hungry because u need to eat more Protein I eat nuts like almonds or Peanut Butter on a fruit. I haven't gotten my liquid diet but since I'm always putting myself on diets I have done the slim fast drinks then I will have a light yogurt and some nuts that keeps me full until dinner

I have been doing the Bariatric Advantage shakes. They are Meal Replacements and YES im hungry!! Lol..my only motivation is that I HAVE to lose 9 more pounds for the insurance requirements. . I was thinking of also trying the Protein Drink Isopure..since its clear (good for post-op) and has like 30g of protein..any feedback on that??

I use Isopure to add to green smoothies that I make with almond milk, spinach, strawberries, a banana and ice. It tastes ok to me - has lots of Vitamins and is low calorie. The recipe came with my blender.

I have been replacing my Breakfast with a shake and a snack with half a shake. I am still hungry as well. That made me vary nervous about the pre-op diet! Next week, I am going to try to replace two meals a day (every other day) with shakes!

I've been replacing breakfast with a Syntrax Nectar shake and I'm starving! My surgery is 9/3 and preop diet starts 8/20. No idea how I'm going to get through 2 weeks of it. Very nervous, actually more nervous about preop diet than the surgery!

Hi Meemee, I was not given specific about shakes to drink, just Protein Shakes. I am starting to replace some of my meals with the costco Kirkland Premier shakes and the whey Protein Powder. I tried Shakeology because it has a lot of nutrition, but had an allergic reaction. I thought I might check into the Isopure for the clear liquid days. I hope you are there the same time, that would be awesome to meet someone.

Hi, all pre-op testing completed and scheduled for September 3rd. Cutting down on meals and converting to all liquid by August 15th. Attending monthly group meetings and reading bariatric blogs. Considering my weight and associated health problems, I consulted my doctors and received positive responses to my plans for bariatric surgery. My family is totally supportive, I am ready for my surgery, and I am committed to following my doctor's recommendations.

Many thanks to other bloggers who are sharing their stories and solutions as we fight the good fight.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
