You are not suppose to fast for 2 days in a row on the 5:2 plan. It should be 2 non-consecutive days in a week, so I would really try to eat more at supper. And you can fast 3 days a week, non-consecutive as well, but the weight loss results are almost identical fasting 2 days or fasting 3 days.

Believe me, the 2 days in a row of Fasting was not intentional... Typically I am a Tuesday/Thursday faster! lol... This week has been odd though!

My step kids do crazy decoupages and hang them all over their walls so I actually think those are kinda cool. Disturbing, maybe, but definitely cool.

Confession time: first time since starting 5:2 that I went totally off the rails and ruined a fast day. My head just wasn't there today and I couldn't do it. Totally head hunger and stress, so it's not like I'm starving or something. I'm somewhere between a fast day and a regular day (860 calories) so I'm not really sure what to do. I'm not hungry at all so I'll probably call it quits on the food for the day and give the fast another shot on Saturday.

Tomorrow is my busy big meal day so it would be a tough day to fast. Besides, I'm doing a big Greek dinner and would never succeed at skipping this one, especially with fresh pitas!

So, feeling a bit down but also feeling kinda what the hell about it all. I'm definitely losing steam here - I hope the scale is kind tomorrow, or I'm going to have to have hubs hide it again because that bounce on top of everything else clearly ruined my day.

Hope everyone else did better than me! I'm off for bedtime snuggles with the twins.

It's nice to see someone appreciates art!! :P

Cheri,

I had more than a tough time on my fast days last week. after coming back from vacation i felt the same way (losing steam) but those are temporary feelings and they will pass, this is life it's not perfect everyday. That's what's good about 5:2, if its a total "fail" day then we just dust ourselves off and just pick another day!

I'm a surrealist painter, so I LOVED your collages. I like how you mixed yours kids images in with the magazine images. Don't want to ruin anyones image of me, but now that i know I have a compatriot in art here....

530 cals today, did fine after eating about 70% Cookies yesterday!....

Okay, FASTING DAY ONE is done!!!

Whew! What a day too! My older daughter (12) ran around buying supplies to make stilts for my younger daughter's birthday (she turns 11 on Sat.) and she wanted stilts. The ones she wanted were like $70 plus shipping (they were aluminum) but someone suggested I just buy the wood and make them myself.

Well, 4 hours in a hot garage with my daughter helping me...OMG, I did get a Headache and figured it was fasting related, but could have been the heat also. I drank tons of Water today. Probably 100oz just to keep myself hydrated in the heat. We finished them but still need to paint them tomorrow (in the heat again!)

But I logged everything including the two tiny hot tamale candies that I ate, lol. Total for the day was 506 cals.

So glad I can eat tomorrow, but do have to say that I like not having to constantly worry about food, etc. Reminds me of being a newbie sleever when food didn't consume my every thought. I can see why some of you say you actually look forward to a fasting day. ;)

Love that! FYE! Wow I can't believe that's a painting there is so much texture in it!

Oh, and I would love to know what was going on in your mind when you painted that!!

I would love a cookie right now... Nights are so hard. I posted my totals in the fast day thread :)

Look at you! My first fast I barely made it through the day and you built things!!

Good job :)

I did really well fasting today. I ended up having a tiny piece of cantaloupe after my bison meat loaf. I am assuming I didn't go over 500 calories but I didn't weigh my meatloaf and I would have to look up bison somewhere. I am not good about logging.

I am amazed that I am not hungrier than I am, and I would sure love a snack but it's past my time to be able to eat.

OMG Coops, AWESOME!!! I love it.

FYE -- that painting is so cool, I completely dig it. Did that used to be your profile pic? Funny that you paint meat...

Laura -- I dig your collages too, totally my cup of tea.

I'm not an artist of any kind, but I'm an appreciator of abstract and surreal art for sure.

Yes, FYE, I thought the same thing as Swizzly that used to be your profile pic...really neat art!

Thanks LV...I'm not sure I knew that when I started the day I was going to be building stilts. Haha. Your collages are really cool too. I have a bachelor's degree in art with an emphasis in graphic design, but never took the fine art path (though I'm jealous of those who make a living doing fine art!) I've been a graphic artist on and off for the last 19 years, which I love but now that I took time off to raise my kids, the technology is changing so fast getting a job now seems bleak. I went back to school in Jan. and took 3 classes and then stopped for the summer. I will resume classes this fall and hopefully come out with a "certificate" of web design.

YAY Coops! Soooooo happy that 164 is NOT the number on your scale. Do you actually weigh in lbs vs kgs? Or do you weigh in kgs and convert for us? Either way my brain is so happy that you post in pounds...lame I know but I'm often too lazy to look up kgs conversions...lol. So I love that you do that AND SO HAPPY that you saw 163.

Cheri, don't give up yet. I know how hard it can be when things don't go as planned, but you will find a day to fast and when you do, just take advantage of it!

Apparently my first day of fasting netted me a -2lb loss. So now the fun begins. Eating in moderation today and hopefully NOT see the scale bounce back up as a response to my body feeding. We shall see...

Way to go. m2G! I had a great day. Walked after work and tried to eat chicken stirfry for supper. Didn't get much down for some reason.

Weighed this morning and DOWN A POUND! I'm so happy for a loss. 19 lbs now since starting 5:2 in June. Only a few more to get to original goal and HOLD UM, hold um, hold I'm. As rawhide would say!!!! :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
