So we are in Pensacola this week for vacation, which means eating out way more than we would otherwise.

I do not order anything to drink when we go out because I am there to eat and can't do both at the same time.

Well I am wondering, what kind of reactions do you guys get when you don't order a drink?

Last night our waitress asked for our drink order and I politely said nothing for me thank you. She then responded by saying "not even Water? What about tea or lemonade? Or do you want a diet coke?" When I told her again no thank you ill have nothing to drink, she rolled her eyes at me and made a rude face.

:/

I have gotten the funniest reactions when I tell waiters i don't want anything to drink. What I found that works is ordering a glass of Water but letting it sit there. it doesn't cost anything and they won't come by to try to refill it if they see it's full.

I don't wanna be tempted to drink it while I am waiting for my food. That's why I don't just order a Water. :(

It's not heroin , you won't go into withdrawals It's just Water and your habit of drinking with meals is no different than the one I had to break.

Or you can deal with the cranky waiter. :P

My doctor to told me that I could drink 15 minutes before the meal and 1 hour after a meal. What if you got the Water as soon as you sat down, drank some and then stopped. This way, you could still have a little something to drink before your meal and then wait that 15 minutes before your food comes. Might be worth a try...

Stick to your guns. I generally ignore people who bug me because I don't want to prolong the drama.

You know yourself best. If you don't want it at the table then there you go. We aren't here to appease them. I usually get a Water or unsweetened tea and have a sip or two then I ask for a to-go cup LOL That's when you get strange faces ... a to-go cup of tea

and I was just like you. 50 years of habit to break! One of the first benefits i realized even before surgery is that i could taste much more depth in the food once i stopped drinking with meals.

I've experienced the same thing. I just order a Water and don't drink it. At the end of my meal I ask for a to go cup! (; then you can drink it later.

Ill probably just suck up the weird faces and not order it at all.

I also have noticed how nice it is to really taste things and not have taste buds overloaded by the taste of a coke or tea. I also finding myself wanting to try more things where before I wouldn't.

Your NUT wasn't Katie at Forest Park, was she?

(That's exactly what she told me and so far she's been right)

i donno bout you, but ANY server that actually rolled his or her eyes at me would be saying goodbye to their tip. They can be perplexed all they wanna be, but there better be some self control as far as a rude attitude goes. I'd even be tempted to speak to a manager about it (after the meal so as not to get spit in my food! lol)

I still get strange reactions from servers when I'm like nothing to drink for me, but honestly who cares. Most of the time even when I say no to a glass of Water they still bring it to me. I look at it as ok most things for u to clean up after I leave & another glass to wash for the dishwasher.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
